Remembering Lois Amick Comer And Julius Aycox, Jr.

Two beloved community members celebrated for their lives and contributions.

Lois Amick Comer, 85, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home on February 22, 2025. Born on September 30, 1939, she was the beloved daughter of the late Homer and Frances (Wilson) Amick. Lois married Barry Comer on her birthday, September 30, 1957. Throughout her life, she was actively involved with the First Christian Church of Scottsburg, where she touched many lives with her kindness and spirit.

Lois is survived by her two daughters, Julie (Jeff) Petty and Lisa Prange, and one son, Monty (Paige) Comer. A proud grandmother, she leaves behind seven grandchildren: Jamie (Mitch) Prout, Jodie (John) Christie, Lindsey (Casey) Wills, Matthew (Kaylie) Prange, Jordan (Drew) Powell, and Isaac (Macy) Comer. Her legacy continues with six great-grandchildren: Emma and Hannah Prout, Jeffrey Christie, Riley and Wyatt Wills, and Saylor Comer. She is also survived by her brothers Eugene and Robert (Sherri) Amick, and sisters Ruth Holland and Mary (Lee) Colwell, along with one brother-in-law and one sister-in-law. Lois requested a private graveside service for her immediate family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Cemetery Fund in Leota, Indiana, through Collins Funeral Home.

Meanwhile, Julius "Skip" Aycox, Jr., 80, passed away on February 25, 2025, at Glendale Nursing Home. He was born on April 5, 1944, in Schenectady, NY, to the late Carrie Nell Miller and Julius R. Aycox. An educator by profession, Julius earned both his B.A. and M.S. degrees from SUNY Oneonta, and his School Administration Certificate from SUNY Albany, along with the Principal's Center Certificate from the Harvard School of Education.

His career began as a classroom teacher at the Frankfurt/Schuyler Central School District, where he also coached wrestling, track, and football. He served the Schenectady City School District from 1968 to 1999, dedicatively teaching at both Horace Mann School and Martin Luther King Elementary School. Subsequently, he moved on to administrative roles, serving at King Elementary, Yates Arts-in-Ed Magnet School, and eventually overseeing Alternative Programs at the Communities in Schools Academy.

Julius is survived by his children: Christopher Aycox and his wife Klara (Prosec Nad Nisou, Czech Republic), Karin (Aycox) Welling and her husband Dave (Gainesville, VA), Kurt Osterlitz (Rotterdam), Kristen DeSalvatore and her husband Dave (Clifton Park), and Jon Osterlitz (Clifton Park). He was proud of his 14 grandchildren, Radim, David, Laura, Oliver, Gabby (Prosec Nad Nisou), Emma, Samuel (Gainesville), Peyton, Grady (Rotterdam), Nathan, Daniel, Morghan (Clifton Park), Ian and his wife Lindsey (Averill Park), and Shane (Schenectady, NY). He also leaves behind one great-grandchild, Beckett (Averill Park). Julius was predeceased by his wife, Patricia, and daughter, Laurin Aycox.

Friends and family are invited to the calling hours for Julius on February 27, 2025, from 4 PM to 6:30 PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie, with memories shared starting at 6:30 PM. Instead of flowers, his family encourages donations to organizations including the ACLU, the Huntington's Disease Society of America, or the Hamilton Hill Arts Center.

Both Lois and Julius left behind rich legacies, nurturing families and communities through their lifetimes. Their memories will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved them.
