The Regensburg Christmas Circus has concluded its 2024/25 season on a high note, achieving unprecedented success with its eighth edition. The show, themed "Es werde Licht!" (Let There Be Light!), captivated audiences and set a new attendance record, drawing over 35,000 guests to 41 performances at the blue and white tent located on the Dultplatz.
By the end of the season, the number of attendees surged past previous years, prompting the circus to extend its schedule by one week. The final show, which took place after a sold-out afternoon performance on January 5, 2025, demonstrated the circus's growing popularity and demand.
Regisseur Rodrigue Funke curated diverse acts throughout the season, ranging from breakdancing illuminated with LED costumes to skillful performances by roller-skate teenagers and poetic shadow plays. The varied program appealed to all ages and left the audience buzzing with enthusiasm. Post-show reactions echoed similar sentiments, with one attendee noting, "Mega schön, gigantisch, wir kommen wieder, ein Muss in jedem Jahr" (Mega beautiful, gigantic, we will come again, a must every year).
The ambiance of the circus itself markedly contributed to its festive atmosphere, featuring intricately adorned interiors and facades. The pre-tent dining area was equally inviting, complete with a massive pine wreath and sparkling crystal chandeliers. This attention to detail created not just performances but memorable experiences for families and visitors alike.
Thomas Schütte, the producer from Grandezza Entertainment, expressed satisfaction with the season's success, indicating aspirations to improve each year. "We want to become even more exceptional from year to year; our guests should experience unforgettable hours with us. The significant increase in our audience this year is the best reward for our efforts aimed at the Regensburg public," he stated.
While most of the performers were set to leave Regensburg soon after the final curtain, the spotlight remains on the three siblings of the "Skatin Balkanski" trio. The Bulgarian roller-skate act is headed directly to Monte-Carlo for the world's largest circus festival, invited by Princess Stephanie of Monaco to showcase their talent in the "Next Generation" segment. This opportunity offers them exposure to new audiences and could potentially lead to future award-winning performances returning to Regensburg.
Looking forward, Funke hinted at new concepts already being developed for the next season, stating, "We have ideas for the next program because after the Christmas Circus is before the Christmas Circus." The dedication of the artists, producers, and support staff promises to maintain the high standards already set and cultivate the circus's legacy as Regensburg's cherished holiday tradition.
