Record Participation At Orgères-en-Beauce Cycling Race

The 13th edition marks the cycling season's opening with enthusiastic community support and participation.

On March 4, 2025, the 13th edition of the amateur cycling race at Orgères-en-Beauce marked the beginning of the cycling season, drawing enthusiastic participation and supportive crowds. Under the clear blue skies described as having "no rain and radiant weather" by Thierry Bourgevin, the deputy mayor of Orgères-en-Beauce, the main event unfolded magnificently over the weekend.

This year, the gathering saw approximately 140 cyclists from numerous categories take to the starting line, breaking the previous participation record, as announced by Stéphane Coeurjoly, the president of AC Voves, which co-organized the event alongside Ufolep Eure-et-Loir.

The race itself began at the retirement home and featured a challenging 9.8 kilometer course winding through the picturesque Cambray forest. Participants ventured forth, branching out toward Fontenay-sur-Conie before making their return back to Orgères-en-Beauce. The racers' departures were staggered, commencing at 14:00, accommodating various categories from beginners to seasoned cyclists, with some competing in up to eight laps, totalling 78.4 kilometers.

Among the 132 competitors were many represented by Ufolep, the French Cycling Federation, and the Fédération Sportive et Gymnique du Travail, hailing from as many as ten different departments. Despite only four women participating, their involvement was highlighted by impressive placements—Laura Perthuis from AC Voves and Laëtitia Lecoq from AST Châteauneuf finished 34th and 37th respectively, showcasing the growing inclusivity within the cycling community.

Significant victories were noted: Paul Lecomte from VC Lucéen triumphed in the 1st category, followed closely by Yoann Revel from Anet VC winning the 2nd category, and Jean-Marc Barboux representing ES Maintenon-Pierres claiming victory for the 4th category. Each of these accomplishments added to the spirited atmosphere of the event, bringing cheers from the spectators gathered along the course.

"It was all about speed and passion, with the weather playing its part perfectly," stated Bourgevin, echoing the sentiments felt by participants and spectators alike. The warmth of the day and community support facilitated not just spirited competition but also encouraged camaraderie among the racers.

With this year’s record turnout and the evident excitement around the event, the amateur cycling race at Orgères-en-Beauce has firmly established itself as not only a local tradition but also as a significant event on the regional cycling calendar. The atmosphere was electric, combining competitive spirit with the beauty of the surrounding countryside, drawing wide acclaim.

The successful execution of this year’s race is expected to fuel greater participation and community engagement at future events, helping to usher new cyclists and enthusiasts. The supportive remarks from local leaders, like Bourgevin’s enthusiastic commentary on the day, depict how community involvement drives sporting events forward. "We hope to see more participation next year—this is just the beginning of an exciting cycling season!" he said, leaving many to speculate the growth of this beloved tradition.
