The Gazette has recently published obituaries honoring the lives of two cherished individuals, Eileen M. Leland and Martha Rae Holmes, both of whom have left lasting memories among family and friends.
Eileen M. Leland was 90 years old when she passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loved ones, on February 4, 2025. Her memorial service is set for 11 AM on March 8, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church located in Solon. A time for visitation will precede the service, starting at 9 AM at the church, followed by a reception held in the church’s fellowship hall. This opportunity for communal remembrance aims to honor the legacy of Eileen, who made significant connections throughout her life.
The obituary emphasizes how family was central to Eileen’s life, and attendees are encouraged to share thoughts and fond memories through Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service's website, providing an avenue for collective grieving and remembrance.
Similarly, Martha Rae Holmes, aged 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on February 6, 2025, at Corridor Crossing Place. Her family will be receiving friends on February 10, 2025, at Teahen Funeral Home from 10 AM until 11 AM, when her service will take place. Martha’s family includes her son, Brian Holmes, her daughter, Connie Palmer, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished deeply. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Holmes, and her brother, John Rammelsberg, Jr.
Martha was born on September 6, 1937, to John and Bernice Hamilton Rammelsberg in Cedar Rapids. She was educated at Palo High School, graduating in 1954. Martha and John celebrated their union with marriage on July 28, 1956, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Throughout her life, she worked with dedication at Rockwell Collins and the Norand Corporation.
Despite her professional commitments, Martha had diverse interests, including camping, fishing, and traveling to beloved spots like Hayward, WI, and Lake Michigan. Yet, her greatest joy came from being at home with her family, as expressed poignantly by her loved ones who will carry her spirit with them.
Both of these obituaries reflect the importance of family ties and community bonds. Martha’s family has extended their gratitude to Corridor Crossing for their caring support during her final days. They have also suggested memorial donations be directed to any charity of choice, echoing Martha's compassionate spirit.
These obituaries not only document final tributes to their lives but also invite the community to reflect on their contributions, fostering togetherness among those grieving and celebrating Eileen and Martha’s legacies. From heartfelt memorial services to the sharing of cherished memories, The Gazette continues to honor those who have passed with dignity and respect.
