Rayssa Leal has once again proven her prowess on the skateboarding world stage, securing her third consecutive title at the SLS Super Crown, held on December 15, 2024, at the iconic Ginásio do Ibirapuera in São Paulo. This remarkable achievement makes Leal the first female skateboarder to achieve three consecutive championships, solidifying her legacy within the sport.
The excitement was palpable as over 8,000 fans filled the arena to support their favorite athletes, creating an electrifying atmosphere during the final competition of the Street League Skateboarding (SLS) season. The event not only showcased top talent but also boasted record prize money, totaling $1.8 million for the season, with Leal capturing the grand prize of $100,000 for her victory.
Leal entered the finals as the second-ranked skateboarder after excelling throughout the season, accumulating points across several competitions. Despite the pressure, she demonstrated incredible composure and skill during the event, which featured both runs and individual trick attempts from each competitor.
During the finals, each skateboarder had two rounds of 45-second runs followed by five trick attempts to accumulate their highest scores. The competition format added significant tension as the judges awarded scores based on the execution and difficulty of the tricks performed.
Interestingly, Rayssa’s performance began with some stumbles. After taking the lead early on with solid scores of 8.2 and 8.5, she found herself struggling during the trick attempts, falling on her first two attempts. At one point, the Japanese competitor Coco Yoshizawa executed a thrilling trick, earning her the highest score of the day—a 9.2—putting pressure on Leal as the final moments of the competition approached.
But true to her nickname, 'Fadinha' (Little Fairy), Rayssa was not to be deterred. With the crowd's encouragement and her fierce competitive spirit, she landed a nail-biting trick worth 9.1, securing her lead just as the competition drew to its climax.
Reflecting on the emotional rollercoaster of the event, Leal expressed her feelings candidly. "I don’t have enough words. All of this happened today is worth much more than this trophy. I was nervous, I won’t lie... and today you saw the reality of skate, friendship, and family," she said during her post-competition interview. Her words encapsulated not only her personal triumph but the love and support from fans and fellow competitors alike.
The podium was capped off with Coco Yoshizawa taking home the silver medal and Yumeka Oda claiming bronze. The strong performances from these competitors highlighted the intense level of competition and the growth of women's skateboarding on the global stage.
Rayssa’s stunning victory is marked not just by her remarkable skill, but also by her perseverance and passion for the sport. With this win, she has reached 12 titles within the SLS circuit, reflecting her consistent performance and competitive edge throughout the years.
Looking forward, Rayssa Leal aims to surpass even more milestones, eyeing potential future events and national representation as she continues making history, one trick at a time. The skateboarding community eagerly anticipates her next appearances as she carves her path forward, continuing to inspire future generations of skaters around the world.
