Ranchi Weather Report: Rising Temperatures After Rain

Ranchi prepares for warmer days after recent rains and thunderstorms.

Ranchi is bracing for a rise in temperatures starting Monday, March 24, 2025, following a brief respite from a heatwave caused by recent rain and hailstorms. According to data from the Ranchi office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures are expected to soar across most of the state, with the exception of Kolhan and Santhal Pargana regions, which are predicted to see continued rainfall.

On Saturday, March 22, 2025, Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 28.1°C, reflecting a significant rise of 3.6°C from Friday. Nearby Jamshedpur logged a maximum of 27.8°C which was an increase of 0.2°C. Meanwhile, Daltonganj reported a higher maximum of 33.6°C, up by 8.5°C, and Palamu recorded the highest temperature at 34.7°C.

The weather has been dynamic over the past few days, with light to moderate rainfall observed in most areas, accompanied by thunderstorms, hail, and heavy rain in isolated locations across Jharkhand. Notably, Kersai in Simdega witnessed the highest rainfall in the state, recording 85.6mm. Other mentioned rainfall amounts include Ranchi with 41mm, Jamshedpur at 39.2mm, and Chaibasa with 26.7mm.

In addition to the spike in maximum temperatures, there was also a notable rise in humidity levels. The day’s weather forecast indicated a minimum and maximum temperature in Ranchi on Saturday of 16.06°C and 28.33°C respectively, along with a relative humidity of 68% and wind speed reaching 68 km/h.

The IMD's updates have not only raised alarms due to rising temperatures but also for a hazardous air quality index (AQI), which stood at 155.0, categorizing it within the moderate range for the city on March 22, 2025. This level of air quality may cause issues for vulnerable groups such as children and individuals with respiratory conditions, prompting health advisories for limited outdoor activities.

In light of the changing weather, the recent rain has provided a temporary relief from the oppressive heat. It seems like Ranchi residents were given a reminder of the seasonal shift with the sudden change from sunny to rainy spells. The temperature drop following the rain gave people much-needed respite.

Given the ongoing meteorological conditions, the IMD has issued a yellow alert, informing residents to remain cautious as thunderstorms and lightning conditions may occur in various parts of the state, including Bokaro and Giridih. Residents have been advised to avoid taking shelter under trees during adverse weather conditions due to the risk of falling branches and lightning strikes, and farmers are urged to stay away from fields to ensure their safety until normal weather resumes.

With upcoming days forecasted to warm up again—indicated temperatures on March 25, 2025, may rise to as high as 29.62°C—the fluctuating weather paints a picture of the typical pre-summer season in Jharkhand, requiring residents to adapt quickly to conditions swinging from rain to heat.

Looking ahead, the week’s weather predictions include a steady climb in temperatures, with the forecast suggesting a clear sky and high temperatures, marking the return of sunny days. The projected temperatures for March 26, 2025 include a high of 32.69°C, increasing later in the week to reach a peak of 35.44°C on March 27, 2025.

In summary, Ranchi's weather showcases the broad patterns typical of spring transitions, with occasional rain and rising temperatures creating a mixed bag. As residents adjust to these changes and take the necessary precautions, staying informed about the upcoming weather can help ensure safety and comfort in the variable climate of Jharkhand.
