Ramadan 2025: Celebrations And Observances Begin

Communities prepare for Ramadan with schedules, greetings, and charity efforts.

With the Islamic holy month of Ramadan fast approaching, communities across the globe are preparing to welcome this season of spirituality and reflection. Ramadan, which is marked by fasting from dawn until sunset, is not only about abstaining from food and drink but also about strengthening relationships, performing charitable acts, and deepening ones faith.

The Ministry of Public Health has announced adjustments to healthcare services during Ramadan 2025, emphasizing the unique needs of the fasting community. All emergency services and inpatient care at Hamad Medical Corporation will continue to operate around the clock throughout Ramadan, including pediatric emergency centers. The Primary Health Care Corporation will also offer urgent care services at twelve health centers, ensuring accessibility for all. Details about the schedule of various health services will be communicated by the respective government health institutions.

For schools, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education has established specific working hours during Ramadan for public schools and kindergartens. These hours are intended to accommodate both students and staff, allowing them to observe their religious obligations without compromising their education.

Along with adjustments to work schedules, many people engage in the tradition of sending greetings to family and friends as Ramadan approaches. With the rise of social media, the exchange of Ramadan greetings has shifted from traditional cards to digital messages, making it easier to reach loved ones. This year, individuals can share beautiful e-cards featuring phrases like ‘Ramadan Mubarak’ and imagery of crescent moons, lanterns, and dates.

Such cards are not just decorative; they carry significant emotional weight. They symbolize the spirit of Ramadan and the joy it brings. Whether sending texts or posting on social platforms, the emphasis is on conveying warm wishes and blessings. Some popular phrases include:

  • “May this holy month bring you peace, joy, and blessings.”

  • “Wishing you and your family a peaceful and blessed Ramadan.”

  • “Happy Ramadan! May you grow closer to Allah and your loved ones.”

This year, preparations also extend to special events and community gatherings. Many mosques will host iftar dinners to break the fast each evening, fostering community spirit and offering opportunities for people to gather, reflect, and share meals. Such communal gatherings help reinforce social bonds, creating networks of support among families and friends.

Families often take this time to reaffirm ties with relatives, inviting them for Iftar meals and ensuring no one breaks their fast alone. This tradition strengthens friendships and kinship, which is especially significant as many look to celebrate the communal aspect of Ramadan.

Gift-giving is also common, with many choosing to prepare small gift baskets filled with dates, sweets, and sometimes even prayer mats. Such gestures of kindness reflect the months emphasis on generosity and mindfulness.

The Ministry reminds the community of the importance of ensuring those who are less fortunate can experience the blessings of Ramadan as well. Individuals are encouraged to perform acts of charity, known as Zakat, during this time. It is considered doubly rewarding during Ramadan to help those in need.

Beyond social and charitable gatherings, Ramadan is marked by the recitation of the Quran, with many making it their goal to complete the holy book during the month. Mosques and Islamic centers may offer special Quran study sessions and communal prayers, including the nightly Taraweeh prayers, enhancing the collective worship experience and community connection.

Traditionally, Ramadan greeting cards are adorned with beautiful designs. Many people seek creative ways to express their sentiments through these cards. From images of mosques to traditional lanterns and the crescent moon, these designs often symbolize peace, love, and spirituality. Examples of popular designs include images of children holding lanterns and phrases like 'Ramadan Kareem,' signifying the wish for a generous Ramadan.

For those unfamiliar with this cultural practice, there are many online platforms where they can share and select beautiful Ramadan cards and backgrounds for their social media. This innovation allows for more personalization and connectivity, bridging distances both physically and emotionally.

It is evident this Ramadan, much like the years before, stands not only for fasting but for compassion, community, and growth. With technological advances enhancing our means of connection, sharing these experiences with loved ones has never been easier. Longer days spent fasting lead to greater appreciation of community, faith, and simple blessings.

So as Ramadan approaches, communities are reminded to embrace the spirit of the month—to share warmth, joy, and blessings with those around them. From healthcare provisions and school schedules to heartfelt greetings and acts of kindness, this holy month invites everyone to participate wholeheartedly and reflectively, enriching the soul and flowering relationships. Ramadan Mubarak!
