Ramadan 2025 Begins Today With Special Health Services

Community health centers adjust hours to support Ramadan observances and community needs.

The holy month of Ramadan, observed by millions worldwide, begins today, March 1, 2025, in Qatar. This significant period is marked by fasting, prayer, and community, bringing families and friends together during its 30 days.

For residents of Qatar, the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has released details about the operational hours of health centers during Ramadan. Aiming to accommodate the unique rhythms of the holy month, the health centers will be providing services on adjusted schedules.

Most of the 31 health centers across the country will run on a two-shift system, ensuring access to medical care during both morning and evening hours. According to the PHCC, family medicine and support services will be available from Sunday to Thursday from 9 AM to 2 PM and again from 4 PM to 12 AM, with Al Wakra Health Center offering continuous service from 9 AM to 12 AM.

Dental services will also see special hours. At Al Wakra Health Center, for example, these services will run from 9 AM to 2 PM and from 7 PM to 12 AM. Additional centers, including South Wakra HC, Al Mashaf HC, Al Thumama HC, and several others will offer similar services during the same hours.

Providing detailed information on service availability, the PHCC has enumerated the 26 health centers operational during Ramadan, which include facilities at locations like Airport HC, Umm Ghuwailina HC, and Omar bin Al Khattab HC, among others.

Adjustments have been made for weekend operations, with 19 centers available during weekends from 9 AM to 2 PM and 7 PM to 12 AM. Notably, dental services will be accessible at multiple participating health centers throughout the weekends.

For those seeking urgent care, PHCC has identified 12 centers offering 24-hour service to meet the needs of the community without interruption. Centers such as Al Ruwais HC and Muaither HC will provide urgent care services for both adults and children, ensuring medical assistance is readily available.

To support the community, the PHCC also emphasized the availability of its 24/7 call center at 16000 for medical consultations over the phone. This is particularly beneficial for those who may have questions or need guidance on specific health issues during the fasting period.

The holy month, known for its emphasis on self-reflection and giving, encourages charitable actions and increased generosity, ideally experienced by everyone, especially those who are observing the fast.

The PHCC's efforts aim not only to provide healthcare effectively but to align their services with the needs of the community throughout Ramadan. The changes reflect sensitivity to the lifestyle adjustments many make during this sacred time.

Engagement is key during Ramadan as families gather for Iftar, the meal breaking the daily fast, to celebrate community and faith. This cultural practice is deeply embedded within Qatari society, turning meals like dates and water at sunset, followed by larger gatherings, as the norm.

Health officials have reminded residents to maintain their health during Ramadan and to visit their nearest health center if needed. Awareness is pivotal, as fasting can lead to various health challenges, and staying informed about service availability enhances peace of mind during this busy period.

Within Doha and its surrounding regions, Ramadan observances bring about festive decorations, markets alive with shoppers seeking food and gifts, and families hosting iftar dinners laden with traditional foods. Residents are encouraged to partake actively and share the joy with friends and community members.

For more convenience, the PHCC has made all necessary health information available, ensuring everyone is well-informed before and during the fasting month. The Ramadan calendar, including prayer timings, can be accessed to help guide worshippers through this holy season.

This Ramadan, look forward to not just fasting but also community gatherings, patience, and acts of charity as Qatari society embraces the traditions and customs unique to this time of year.
