Rakuten Mobile Revamps SPU Program And Lowers AirPods Prices

New requirements aim to increase user engagement and include attractive discounts on popular products for the holiday season.

Rocketing forward with new promotions and services, Rakuten Mobile has announced significant updates to its Super Point Up Program (SPU), alongside some enticing price changes for popular gadgets. Starting from February 1, 2025, users will be required to pre-register to meet the necessitated conditions for the SPU, which has traditionally allowed users to earn points easily just by having matching IDs on Rakuten Mobile and Rakuten Marketplace.

Announced on December 26, 2024, by Rakuten Mobile, the requirement for pre-registration will become compulsory, marking a shift from the previous system where simple registration was enough. Users can start registering from December 26, 2024. This recent change aims to bolster user engagement and streamline the award-earning process, ensuring customers fully understand their pathways to maximize their rewards. The update also extends to Rakuten’s home internet services, Rakuten Turbo and Rakuten Hikari, aligning all of its offerings under the same enhanced user requirements, ensuring consistency across the board.

To sweeten the deal, Rakuten Mobile announced price adjustments for the AirPods (3rd generation), reducing prices by as much as 1300 yen, now available on their official Rakuten Marketplace store. These price cuts are timely, coinciding with the holiday shopping season, allowing parents and gift-givers to snag deals for loved ones.

The AirPods (3rd generation) offers remarkable features, including Apple Music's support for Dolby Atmos, and dynamic head tracking capabilities for an immersive audio experience. These wireless earbuds, announced by Apple back on October 18, 2021, have become ultra-popular, and with the new prices, they are likely to be even more enticing for holiday shoppers.

While shoppers might rejoice at the sight of reduced prices, it’s prudent for prospective buyers to note compatibility caveats related to their charging options. The AirPods utilize Lightning charging cases and do not accommodate universal USB Type-C connectors. This means consumers with modern iPhone models, like the iPhone 15 or iPhone 16, might need to carry around two types of cables if they want to prevent any battery emergencies.

To add value, Rakuten Mobile has highlighted the ability for users of MagSafe cases to charge both iPhones and AirPods with one device, but it carries warnings about using the thicker cases, which could complicate charging. These practical points portrait Rakuten’s careful navigation through customer concerns during these tempting promotions.

Finalize your holiday shopping list with Rakuten Mobile’s exciting offers on SPU points and the alluring deals on AirPods. The careful integration of user promotions aligns well with customer needs, reflecting Rakuten's commitment to providing accessible and valuable services for its users across Japan.
