Rajasthan's weather has taken a sudden turn with unseasonal rain across multiple districts and warnings of hail in Bikaner and surrounding areas. On Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, rain was reported, leading to notable drops in temperatures previously elevated due to recent heat.
The state's capital, Jaipur, registered significant changes, with maximum temperatures reaching 27.4 degrees Celsius following the rain. Other districts such as Jodhpur and Bikaner experienced similar weather patterns, with light showers and increased weather activity observed due to the influence of active western disturbances.
According to the Meteorological Department, the highest recorded rainfall on Tuesday was 3.0 millimeters at Lalsot Dausa, with Barmer hitting the maximum temperature of 35.6 degrees Celsius and Alwar the minimum at 12.2 degrees Celsius. Moisture levels across most of Rajasthan ranged significantly, reported between 24 to 99 percent. Major towns also felt the impact of the shifting weather, with Ajmer recording 29.4 degrees, and other areas like Kota and Chittorgarh seeing similar fluctuations.
The weather department issued yellow alerts due to expectations of localized thunderstorms and hail over the coming days, particularly affecting Alwar, Bharatpur, Jhunjhunu, and other significant regions. Winds are expected to gust between 30-40 kilometers per hour, raising concerns about the safety of structures vulnerable to these conditions.
This sudden weather event marks the second occurrence of rain during February within the past five years. After experiencing mild warmth with temperatures consistently above 35 degrees Celsius at the start of the week, residents have noted the chill following the rain activity. On Tuesday, notable temperature drops were seen across districts, including those which previously sustained higher temperature periods.
The western disturbance seems to influence weather patterns heavily, with more projections hinting at persistent rainfall and shifting temperatures for the next few days too. The department anticipates weather transitions with possible light rain continuing through February 20, leading to dry conditions by the end of the week. The setup of weather patterns could prompt continued monitoring and updates from the meteorological services for the health and safety of citizens, especially for those residing in older structures or near open areas likely to be affected by storms.
This fluctuation between cooler and warmer periods has led to increased respiratory illnesses, as the transition now includes harsh winds and sudden temperature changes, causing distress among residents susceptible to seasonal ailments. Overall, residents should remain vigilant over the coming days, ensuring safety measures are adhered to during this unpredictable weather situation.
