Rachel Sheherazade Departs From Record TV After Contract Ends

The presenter reflects on her time with the network and anticipates new opportunities

Rachel Sheherazade, the prominent Brazilian journalist and television presenter, has officially announced her departure from Record TV, effective December 31, 2023. The news, shared on her social media accounts on December 23, marks the end of her one-and-a-half-year contract with the channel owned by Edir Macedo.

Sheherazade revealed she had been informed by Record TV executives about the absence of plans for her involvement with the network going forward. "Meus agradecimentos à Record pelo respeito e a confiança no meu trabalho. Em menos de um ano, pude encabeçar dois grandes projetos na emissora e recebi muito amor por onde passei. O sentimento é de felicidade por tudo o que vivi este ano e aquela sensação maravilhosa do dever cumprido!" she wrote, expressing gratitude for the opportunities she had during her tenure.

During her time at Record, Rachel hosted two major projects, "A Grande Conquista 2" and "Domingo Record," which debuted to considerable expectations but suffered from disappointing audience figures. Both programs collectively drew criticism for their performance; the Sunday program recorded only 2.8 rating points on average, pointing to the clear struggle for viewership.

Despite the lukewarm reception of her shows, Sheherazade noted the affection she received from fans and colleagues alike, emphasizing her contentment with the work she accomplished. Following her stint on the reality competition "A Fazenda 15," which aired earlier this year, she hoped the visibility gained would contribute to sustained success at Record.

Insiders claimed the station is undergoing restructuring and has decided to pivot away from Sheherazade’s format due to the low ratings. Replacing her will be humorist Tom Cavalcante, whose fresh approach is expected to attract new audiences. He has recently demonstrated remarkable ratings with his program "Acerte ou Caia," which impressed higher-ups at Record.

The decision to not renew Sheherazade’s contract was not made lightly. Sources revealed there was internal dissatisfaction, particularly with the program's sensationalist content and the low morale among the staff working on her show. Some team members reportedly submitted their resignations due to the negative atmosphere surrounding the productions.

Sheherazade's exit from Record coincides with her earlier legal disputes with her former employer, Silvio Santos of SBT. This litigation concluded earlier this year, and Rachel sought due compensation from her time at SBT for alleged workplace issues, yet the case closed without resolution favorable to her demands.

Now poised for new challenges, Sheherazade's career takes another turn as she reflects on her experience at Record. She hinted at plans for 2025 but did not elaborate on her next steps, maintaining the intrigue surrounding her professional future.

Her relationship with the audience and former colleagues received heartfelt acknowledgments on social media, showcasing the impact she had during her brief time on air. Fellow presenters and fans expressed admiration for Rachel’s capability and enthusiasm throughout her television career, echoing sentiments of support for whatever lay next.

Rachel Sheherazade's departure encapsulates not only her individual challenges but serves as a broader reflection on the shifting dynamics of Brazilian television and its competitive nature. While her run at Record may have ended, the path forward is yet to be seen.
