Quetta Gladiators Set PSL Record With Historic 263 Runs

Rilee Rossouw and Hassan Nawaz both score centuries in record-breaking innings

On May 7, 2025, Quetta Gladiators made history against Islamabad United in Rawalpindi, recording the highest-ever total in Pakistan Super League (PSL) history with a staggering score of 263 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. This remarkable achievement eclipsed the previous record of 262 runs set by Multan Sultans in March 2023, ironically against the Gladiators themselves.

The Gladiators' innings was characterized by explosive batting from Rilee Rossouw and Hassan Nawaz, who both scored centuries. Rossouw, the former skipper, played a phenomenal knock of 104 runs off just 46 balls, featuring 14 boundaries and 6 sixes, while Hassan Nawaz contributed an unbeaten 100 runs off 45 balls, including 9 towering sixes. This match marked a significant milestone, as it was the first time in PSL history that two players from the same team scored centuries in a single innings.

After being sent in to bat by Islamabad's skipper Salman Agha, the Gladiators faced an early setback, losing both openers, Finn Allen and Saud Shakeel, within the powerplay. However, the match took a dramatic turn when Rossouw and Nawaz came together at the crease. By the end of the six overs, Quetta was 63 for 2, but the duo unleashed a batting masterclass that left the Islamabad bowlers in disarray.

Rossouw reached his half-century in just 26 balls and continued to accelerate, reaching his century in the 15th over off just 44 balls, marking it as his third PSL century and the joint-fifth fastest in the tournament's history. Meanwhile, Nawaz, who had been known more for his potential than his production, reached his maiden PSL century off 45 deliveries, showcasing his immense talent.

In a breathtaking display of power hitting, the pair added a staggering 134 runs in just 10 overs, propelling Quetta from a solid platform to record-breaking heights. The Gladiators’ total of 263 runs not only set a new PSL record but also served as a powerful statement of intent for the remainder of the season.

This performance is likely to be remembered as one of the most dominant displays in PSL history, with Quetta Gladiators sending a clear message that they are here to dominate rather than merely compete. Their aggressive batting style and strategic gameplay have established them as serious contenders for the title this season.

In addition to the team milestone, Rossouw became the second player in PSL history to score centuries for two different franchises, matching the feat of Sharjeel Khan. This historic match also highlighted the growing competitiveness of the PSL, as teams continue to push the boundaries of T20 cricket.

As the Gladiators celebrate their record-breaking achievement, they remain focused on their ultimate goal: clinching the PSL title. With performances like this, they have certainly positioned themselves as favorites in the ongoing tournament.
