On February 29, the same day she disappeared, her car was captured on CCTV traveling south along Queensland's Bruce Highway, around 800 kilometers away from her hometown of Monto, which is located west of Bundaberg. Witnesses reported seeing Hansen withdrawing cash from her bank’s ATM earlier the same day, raising more questions about her abrupt departure from home.
Authorities are now piecing together her last known movements. The last confirmed sighting of Hansen was 400 kilometers from Geebung, and detectives are particularly interested in any dashcam footage or information about her vehicle's movements between February and June. Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty characterized Hansen's disappearance as "highly unusual," emphasizing the urgent need to provide answers to her family. He stated, “The trail goes cold from the Sunshine Coast ... we’d like to solve this mystery.”
Hansen's remains were discovered by volunteers clearing vegetation at Jetty Beach, Coffs Harbour, on June 17. Alongside her body, police also recovered several personal items including clothing, jewellery, reading glasses, and her backpack. Yet, perplexingly, significant items such as her mobile phone remain missing. This absence only adds to the eerie nature of the case.
