Qatar Embraces Digital Transformation At Web Summit 2025

The upcoming summit highlights Qatar's commitment to innovation and inclusive technology for all residents.

Doha, Qatar: Qatar is making significant strides toward its goal of becoming a technology-driven economy, reflecting its commitment to digital transformation through various initiatives and collaborations. A key part of this movement is the upcoming Web Summit Qatar 2025, which will take place from February 23 to 26 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC). This event, sponsored by Doha Bank as a Platinum Level Partner, will assemble leaders from the global technology industry, driving innovation and collaboration within the region's thriving tech sector.

Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Fahad bin Faisal Al Thani, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Doha Bank, emphasized the significance of the summit, stating, "Web Summit Qatar 2025 presents a unique opportunity to drive progress through innovation and collaboration. Our role as Platinum Level Partner reflects Doha Bank’s commitment to empowering innovation, supporting digital transformation, and fostering collaborations aligning with Qatar’s vision of a diversified, knowledge-based economy." This summit aims to not only bolster Qatar's tech ecosystem but also connect it with global stakeholders.

Qatar's efforts extend beyond individual events and showcase its high performance in digital infrastructure coverage and connection quality. Reports reveal the nation ranks among the top global performers thanks to extensive initiatives, including the rollout of mobile 5G networks and strong investments in fiber optic infrastructures. These advancements form the backbone of Qatar’s strategic direction, laying the groundwork for comprehensive digital inclusion.

According to the 2024 Digital Inclusion Index (DII) report launched by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), the Digital Agenda 2030 is central to ensuring all segments of society benefit from the digital age. The report highlights the pressing need for digital inclusion, particularly as the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated shifts toward digital services such as telehealth and contactless menus.

The COVID-19 crisis illuminated the gaps in accessibility, illustrating the need for enhanced digital inclusion for various populations. The DII serves as both a monitoring tool and guiding framework for policies aimed at increasing digital engagement throughout the country. This initiative strives to make sure every resident, regardless of their socioeconomic background, has the necessary resources and skills to navigate this increasingly digital world.

With key areas of focus such as digital accessibility, affordability, ability, and content availability, the Qatar DII will guide targeted interventions to promote societal well-being and economic development. Local surveys help compare digital inclusion across different demographic segments, ensuring comprehensive strategies are implemented and adapted where needed.

Qatar’s vision aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, aiming for inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. Although substantial advancements have been made, the digital divide remains noticeable, indicating the urgency of sustained efforts from the government, hospitality sector, and private enterprises to support digital journeys.

These collective efforts are pivotal as the country continues to pursue its goals laid out under the national vision of 2030. Sheikh Abdulrahman expressed how thrilled he is to be part of the transformative advancements occurring within the country. He emphasized the need for continuous commitment to digital transformation, stating, "We are honored to be part of projects and discussions paving the way for future advancements. The successes we've achieved mark only the beginning of what's possible for Qatar's tech ecosystem." With upcoming initiatives and events like the Web Summit, Qatar is undoubtedly poised to embrace its technology-driven future.

Moving forward, engaging all residents and ensuring equitable access to digital services will require collaborative efforts across all sectors. These sustained actions will be central to enhancing the overall resilience of the Qatar economy and its inhabitants, marking significant progress toward establishing the nation as a hub for technological advancement and digital excellence.
