Doha, Qatar: Qatar's 14th National Sports Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm, featuring activities aimed at promoting physical health and community engagement across the nation. Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani actively participated in events at Al-Noor Institute for the Blind, alongside members from various community centers, including senior citizens and participants from Shafallah Center and Dreama Center.
This year's observances emphasized inclusivity and community participation, showcasing various sports activities and games intended to unite families and individuals from different backgrounds. The day's programs were specially organized to reflect the importance of sports as part of daily life, merging enjoyment with wellness activities.
Alongside the Prime Minister's activities, the European Union Delegation to Qatar held the "(eunited) Ride for Wellness," which saw participants cycling through Doha’s picturesque Corniche to the Old Port. Covering 7-8 kilometers, the cycling event not only promoted active living but also celebrated shared values of wellness, health, sustainability, and community spirit.
H.E. Dr. Cristian Tudor, the EU Ambassador, highlighted the essence of the event, stating, "Cycling is not just a physical activity, it’s a celebration of community, a commitment to sustainability, and an opportunity to strengthen the bonds..." His remarks encapsulated the event's aim not just to encourage physical activity but also to enrich social connections among participants.
The importance of National Sports Day was echoed by HE the Speaker of the Shura Council, Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, who emphasized the day’s role in promoting public health. He stated, "The allocation of an annual Sport Day reflects the vision of the wise leadership..." Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, the Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, also underscored the integral role of sports, asserting, "Sport is not just entertainment, but an...essential element in building a strong and healthy society."
