Pyeongtaek City has launched a proactive initiative to tackle fine dust pollution at Pyeongtaek Port, announcing on March 19, 2025, that it will collaborate with related organizations such as the Capital Area Atmospheric Environment Agency, the Pyeongtaek Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries, and Gyeonggi Province.
This joint response is part of a comprehensive approach to mitigate fine dust, a persistent environmental issue affecting public health and urban quality of life. To kickstart these efforts, the city conducted a public campaign aimed at citizens and cargo vehicle owners at the 4th gate parking lot in the eastern section of Pyeongtaek Port. The campaign’s objective was to promote participation in seasonal dust management and share practical guidance on reducing fine dust emissions.
As part of the initiative, the Capital Area Atmospheric Environment Agency and the Pyeongtaek Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries measured the environmental conditions in the vicinity of the port, identifying areas with high concentrations of fine dust and inspecting construction sites that contribute to fugitive dust emissions. The agencies, in tandem with Pyeongtaek City, scrutinized several businesses within the Poseung Industrial Complex that are known for releasing air pollutants.
A city official remarked, "This joint campaign and inspection is an important step towards resolving the fine dust issue at Pyeongtaek Port," underscoring the city's commitment to addressing the pollution challenges facing the area. The official added, "We will create a comfortable urban environment where citizens can live safely through close cooperation with each organization," indicating a future-focused vision for Pyeongtaek as a healthier, more sustainable city.
In addition to its environmental efforts, Pyeongtaek City also took a moment to recognize excellence in hospitality by awarding certificates to 11 lodging facilities deemed exceptional. This recognition ceremony coincided with the fine dust initiative, further showcasing the city’s holistic approach to improving urban life.
The selection of these lodgings was based on thorough evaluations that assessed various criteria, including cleanliness, fire safety, customer convenience, service to foreign guests, and the quality of customer support facilities. Each recognized facility will be honored with an 'Excellent Accommodation Facility Designation' sign, a certificate from the city, and additional operational supplies designed to enhance their service quality.
The city plans to promote these excellent businesses through its official social media platforms and related organizations, ensuring that the community is aware of the high standards available within their local hospitality sector.
With concerted efforts from both government and private entities, Pyeongtaek City’s actions reflect a significant commitment to environmental stewardship and community well-being. Going forward, the collaboration among these agencies is set to intensify, or as put forth by a city official, they aim to prioritize creating a pleasant urban environment where citizens can feel secure and comfortable.
The combination of dust reduction initiatives alongside the recognition of high-quality services stands as testament to Pyeongtaek’s dedication to fostering an attractive living environment for all its residents and visitors.
