Today, March 6, 2025, Mexico City is preparing for a series of events including protests, demonstrations, and various cultural activities. The day promises to be one of significant activity, particularly as the city gears up for events related to feminist issues and labor rights, alongside entertainment and religious celebrations.

Authorities expect significant disruptions throughout the city due to multiple protests taking place at various locations. Key areas impacted include Paseo de la Reforma, the Centro Histórico, and Calzada del Hueso, to name just a few. To assist the public, here are details about the protests scheduled and alternative routes to navigate the likely congestion.

One of the main protests set to take place today is organized by the Comunidad Pantera of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM). Slated to begin at 10:00 AM at UAM Xochimilco, located at Calzada del Hueso No. 1100, this feminist demonstration will feature complaint boards and spaces for community members to voice grievances against aggressors within the university.

Simultaneously, the Sección IX of the Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (CNTE) will hold rallies throughout the day across various Metro stations, hospitals of the ISSSTE, and strategic roadways, contesting the 2025 ISSSTE Law and seeking the abrogation of the Education Reform. Commuters using the Metro should prepare for delays, as activities will be broad and include informational pamphleting.

At 1:00 PM, another prominent event is set to occur at the Congreso de la Ciudad de México, located at the intersection of Donceles and Allende. This rally will focus on gender equality with the development of feminist slogans and posters as the community prepares for International Women's Day.

Also at 10:00 AM, the UNAM will host protests concerning union elections for the Sindicato de Trabajadores de la UNAM (STUNAM) at the Centro de Exposiciones y Congresos, promoting support for the “Plantilla Roja,” which signifies the Red Template group within the labor movement.

Numerous cultural and entertainment activities will also take place today, drawing large crowds to Mexico City. Musical events include:

  • Leprous, performing their progressive metal at the Auditorio BlackBerry, expecting 1,000 attendees at 8:00 PM.

  • Luis Ángel "El Flaco," performing regional Mexican music at the Auditorio Nacional with 9,790 attendees expected at 8:30 PM.

  • Íconos, showcasing their musical talents at Teatro Metropólitan, drawing 3,165 participants at 8:30 PM.

  • Chayanne, famous for his Latin pop performances at the Palacio de los Deportes, expecting 21,000 fans at 9:00 PM.

Meanwhile, cultural festivities continue with:

  • Carnaval Peñón de los Baños 2025 at 4:00 PM, located within Venustiano Carranza.

  • Feria Internacional de Franquicias, taking place at WTC, Benito Juárez at 11:00 AM.

  • Fiesta Patronal Sr. de la Columna throughout the day, Tlalpan.

  • Celebración Anual del Santo Jubileo at San Andrés Mixquic, Tláhuac starting at 6:00 AM.

To mitigate vehicular traffic resulting from these events, authorities recommend using alternative routes wherever possible. Suggested detours include:

  • For the Comunidad Pantera event, it's advised to avoid Calzada del Hueso and utilize Periférico Sur or División del Norte.

  • For the CNTE protests, it's best to sidestep Metro lines showing delays, opting for Metrobús or alternate pathway options like Insurgentes and Circuito Interior.

  • For the event at the Congreso, it's encouraged to steer clear of Eje Central and Republic of Brazil, instead taking Avenida Hidalgo or Circuito Interior.

  • For the UNAM’s protest, avoid Avenida del Imán and Avenida Universidad; Insurgentes Sur or Eje 10 Sur are preferable.

Citizens should also expect additional cyclist rides through various neighborhoods as they promote community engagement an initiative by several groups including UPPENSA and Amazonas Rollers. Such rides will take off at multiple times throughout the day.

With all the planned activities today, citizens and visitors of Mexico City are poised for a lively day filled with advocacy and entertainment. This important day sets the stage for continued dialogue surrounding issues of gender equality and labor rights as the city prepares for International Women's Day and beyond.
