The new year has ushered in the commencement of property tax collections across various municipalities of Veracruz, with attractive discounts aimed at encouraging prompt payments. Beginning January 2, 2025, residents of Medellín de Bravo, along with other municipalities like Boca del Río and Soledad de Graciano Sánchez, will benefit from these incentives as they fulfill their civic duties.
According to the city council of Medellín, taxpayers will be able to make their payments at designated modules and offices from 9 AM to 1 PM, Monday through Saturday, throughout January and February. Residents can enjoy discounts of 20% for on-time payments made within the month of January, and up to 50% for eligible pensioners, retirees, and seniors over 60 years old, as well as widows. Importantly, those who clear their tax debts from previous years can arrange formal agreements with the tax collection department to regularize their accounts.
Meanwhile, the Boca del Río municipality has also initiated its tax collection, offering similar incentives—a 20% discount for residents who are up to date on their payments. Payments can be processed either online or at local payment modules, streamlining the process for residents eager to comply.
The program “Contribuyente Cumplido 2025” launched by the municipality of Soledad de Graciano Sánchez has garnered considerable public engagement. The initiative allows taxpayers to receive not only a 15% discount but also the chance to win household appliances as rewards for prompt payment. With extended hours during weekends, the increased accessibility has drawn crowds, as residents are eager to take part and contribute to their community
Residents of the capital, Chilpancingo, flocked to the municipal hall to fulfill their payment obligations, largely motivated by hopes for future investments from the city. Some residents expressed concerns over mismanagement of funds, asking for tangible improvements, particularly to public safety and infrastructure. Pedro Patrón Torres of the Jardines del Sur neighborhood shared, "The authorities must invest what they collect on paving streets and improving security, as many roads remain dirt and promises go unfulfilled." He underscored the need for government accountability, stating the urgency for local infrastructure improvements.
The Director of Revenues for Chilpancingo, José Antonio Villalobos Romero, affirmed there would be no increases to previously established tax rates, which remain consistent with those from 2024. He indicated extended office hours, attributing the good response from residents to the department's efforts to facilitate tax payments.
On the other hand, Culiacán has implemented significant discounts for commercial properties struggling with economic hardships due to violence and closures. Laura Niebla Leal, the Municipal Treasurer, announced the approval of a 40% discount on property taxes for commercial buildings and suggested potential greater relief measures, encouraging all citizens, particularly those affected by recent challenges, to actively take advantage of the incentives available.
Numerous municipalities have optimized their payment procedures, providing options at physical collection booths and through secure online portals to make the process straightforward for taxpayers. Local governments are emphasizing their commitment to transparency and efficient use of tax revenues, rallying public support for timely payments.
Finally, as the weeks progress, the expectation from residents remains clear: they want to see the benefits of their contributions manifest through enhanced public services and infrastructure. The hope is to create community development where citizens feel confident their taxes fund tangible improvements.
