Prince Andrew's Emails Reveal Continued Contact With Epstein

Despite claims of severing ties, new emails show Duke remained engaged with convicted sex offender.

The Duke of York's connection with the late Jeffrey Epstein has once again come under scrutiny, following the release of email correspondence indicating their relationship continued longer than Prince Andrew has publicly acknowledged. Notably, these emails were disclosed during court proceedings related to Jes Staley, former CEO of Barclays, who is appealing against sanctions imposed by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for misrepresenting his association with Epstein.

According to the court documents, on February 27, 2011, Prince Andrew told Epstein: "Keep in close touch and we'll play some more soon!!!!" This message was sent two months after the Duke claimed he had severed ties with Epstein. He previously stated during his infamous interview with the BBC's Newsnight program, aired in November 2019, his last interaction with Epstein took place during their stroll through New York's Central Park in December 2010.

These emails suggest otherwise, highlighting potential contradictions between Andrew's assertions and the reality of their communication. Andrew's claims came under intense scrutiny after journalists began to examine his association with Epstein, especially following the resurfacing of allegations made by Virginia Giuffre, who claims she was trafficked by Epstein and forced to have sex with Andrew when she was just 17.

Epstein was convicted of soliciting prostitution from minors and served 18 months in prison. The Prince maintained he had distanced himself from Epstein following this conviction. Yet, court documents reveal they were still exchanging messages as of February 2011, undermining Andrew's stance during his interviews.

The emails not only reflect Andrew's continued rapport with Epstein but also explore connections with Staley, who expressed willingness to meet up with Andrew. On the same date as Andrew's email, Epstein had informed the Duke about Staley's planned visit to London. Epstein wrote, "jes staley will be in London on next tue afternoon, if you have time," to which Andrew responded, seeking clarity on the timing before cheerfully adding, "Keep in close touch and we'll play some more soon!" This exchange paints a picture of cordial communication, contradicting Andrew's public portrayal of having terminated their relationship.

Staley is facing his own troubles as he appeals against his ban from the financial services industry, imposed after he was found to have misled regulators about his interactions with Epstein. Andrew's emails complicate Staley's narrative, as they suggest he was still maintaining connections with Epstein even after he professed to have cut ties.

The impact of Andrew's ties to Epstein reverberated beyond his personal life, leading to his eventual stepping down from royal duties. Following extensive media coverage of his alleged involvement with Epstein and his legal settlement with Giuffre, which reportedly cost him £12 million, Andrew's public persona faced serious damage.

Critics have not held back, raising questions about Andrew's judgment and integrity. The Duke has consistently denied all allegations made against him, responding to insinuations about his relationship with Giuffre by asserting he has no recollection of ever meeting her. He settled her civil claim without admitting liability to avoid the public spectacle of court proceedings.

With the emails now part of the public domain, the narrative surrounding Prince Andrew's association with Epstein continues to evolve. Contradictions between his statements and this newly unearthed evidence raise significant concerns about his credibility, not only as an individual but also as a member of the British royal family.

Further complicate matters, the fact remains Epstein’s criminal activities, which include trafficking underage girls, cast a long shadow. Andrew's enduring relationship with Epstein and the subsequent emails only amplify scrutiny on the Duke's actions during and after Epstein’s incarceration.

The Duke’s office has been approached for comment since these revelations came to light, but there has been no response. Public interest surrounding this story is set to continue as legal battles and inquiries proceed.

This situation reflects wider societal concerns with power dynamics, accountability, and the intersections of privilege and crime. The Royal family's connections, particularly those involving controversial figures like Epstein, have become increasingly contentious, prompting calls for transparency.

The FCA's investigation is expected to continue to reveal more insights not just about Staley's alleged missteps but also about the broader network of individuals who remained closely linked to Epstein, some of whom may provide clarity on the true nature of the relationships held with the convicted sex offender. For now, the emails serve as potent reminders of the complicated intersections of power, privilege, and the dark realities of abuse and exploitation.
