Prime Video Expands Offerings With New Series And Sports Deals

With the launch of new series and MLB streaming, Prime Video aims to engage diverse audiences.

Amazon Prime Video is gearing up for some thrilling new content as it expands its lineup of shows and sporting events. Among the exciting announcements is the upcoming series, The Bondsman, which showcases actor Kevin Bacon in the lead role.

Set to premiere on April 3, 2025, The Bondsman tells the story of Hub Halloran, Bacon’s character, who faces the unusual challenge of being both dead and assigned to capture demons. The series blends supernatural elements with tantalizing hints of country music, promising viewers a wild adventure.

Bacon’s character, Halloran, resurrected after his murder, embarks on a mission to recapture escaped demons. This premise not only fuels the series' dramatic narrative but also prompts Halloran to confront his past as he navigates his precarious existence, familial estrangements, and personal redemption. NBC described the venture as, “The Bondsman promises a wild ride as Hub hunts down these demonic escapees.”

Joining Bacon are seasoned actors such as Jennifer Nettles and Damon Herriman, making The Bondsman one of the must-watch series of 2025.

Meanwhile, Prime Video is also stepping onto the sports stage with the announcement of its deal to stream Major League Baseball (MLB) games across Japan. This new agreement allows Prime Video to deliver the season-opening Tokyo Series, which features Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani and will host the Los Angeles Dodgers facing the Chicago Cubs.

With livestreaming rights for 54 regular season games per year, or two games each weekend, the platform is setting out to cater to the growing interest among Japanese fans, especially considering the increase of Japanese brands within MLB stadiums since Ohtani’s debut. Yosuke Ishibashi, general manager of content business division at Prime Video Japan, expressed the company’s enthusiasm, saying, “We are extremely honoured to be able to stream Samurai Japan training matches, the MLB Japan opening game, preseason games against the Yomiuri Giants and Hanshin Tigers, and the MLB regular season on Prime Video.” He added, “We hope to expand our baseball content and deliver it to everyone.”

The opening exhibition game of the Tokyo Series is set to take place on March 15, 2025, followed by the regular season opener on March 18, creating anticipation among baseball enthusiasts.

Switching gears again, the thrill doesn’t stop there. The announcement came last week confirming the production of season four of the action-packed series Reacher—a fan favorite on Prime Video. Set to air sometime in 2026, the new season will once again feature Alan Ritchson as the titular character, Jack Reacher, who this time teams up with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to locate one of their lost agents.

With the season kicking off with high-stakes drama and unexpected twists, production is already underway, and fans are eager to see how the narrative develops. Lee Child, the author of the Reacher novels, teased during conversations about the new season, “Oh yeah, all ... we’re always well-prepared.” The stakes certainly appear to be climbing, as Child promises another thrilling adventure, leaving audiences clamoring for more details.

These announcements highlight Prime Video's commitment to diversifying its entertainment offerings significantly. The combination of supernatural drama, thrilling sports events, and action-packed series allows Amazon to engage various audience segments actively, setting the stage for 2025 and beyond to be monumental years for the streaming platform.

From Bacon chasing demons to baseball and undercover operations, Prime Video seems set to capture both hearts and attention with its strategic expansions.
