The Presbyterian College men's wrestling team made history on Wednesday night with an impressive 45-0 victory over Truett McConnell, marking the largest margin of victory ever recorded by the Blue Hose within their six-year program history. This dominating performance took place at Templeton Gymnasium as Presbyterian returned to their home arena and didn’t let up against their NAIA opponent.
This remarkable win not only signifies the team’s prowess but also marks their first shutout since December 2022, coincidentally also against the same TMU team. Under the direction of head coach Mark Cody, the Blue Hose showcased their skills and strategy, filling the score sheet with technical falls and major decision victories. From the get-go, the squad demonstrated unmatched control, never allowing their opponents to threaten their lead.
George Cody, the standout freshman, certainly stole the show with his collegiate debut, recording a stunning 19-4 technical fall. Meanwhile, heavyweight Morvens Saint Jean, alongside junior 197-pounder George Hopkins, contributed significantly to the final score. Each grappler's ability to score individual points helped solidify the Blue Hose’s dominating presence throughout the match.
Across the board, Presbyterian managed to score six technical falls and three additional wins via major decisions. The results of individual bouts highlight how each wrestler pushed the envelope, with several competitors reaching at least 19 points. A prime example is Eli Holiday, who not only scored big with a 20-3 technical fall over Elijah Mullins but also completed his final performance at Templeton with flair.
Since their first competition against TMU back in 2020, the Blue Hose have consistently wowed fans and opponents alike, averaging 40 points more than their rival each time they’ve met. Collectively, they’ve outscored the Bears 198-13, illustrating their consistent dominance within this matchup.
