Poșta Română Invests In High-Tech Sorting Equipment

The new parcel sorting system enhances efficiency and boosts capacity for delivery services.

Poșta Română has taken a significant step towards modernizing its logistics operations by investing 500,000 euros in a state-of-the-art automatic parcel sorting system installed at the Galați Regional Logistics and Courier HUB. This new equipment, which boasts a processing capacity of up to 3,000 parcels per hour, is equipped with 19 sorting outputs and operates at a transport speed of 1.2 meters per second, significantly optimizing handling times and reducing human errors.

According to a company statement, the sorting system automatically scans labels on three sides, measures and records the dimensions and weight of parcels using approved systems, and simultaneously performs parcel presentation and mapping operations. This level of automation is expected to enhance the efficiency of Poșta Română's operations, ensuring a smoother and more reliable experience for customers.

In 2024, Poșta Română allocated over 80 million lei for the acquisition of modern sorting equipment, which includes the first sorting line installed in the last 50 years at the Galați HUB. So far, the company has purchased eight cutting-edge sorting machines, with four already operational in cities including Cluj-Napoca, Oradea, Timișoara, and Galați. Once all systems are fully operational, Poșta Română will be capable of processing approximately 500,000 parcels daily, positioning the company as a potential distribution hub for parcels across Europe.

During the inauguration of the new sorting line, Valentin Ștefan, the director of Poșta Română, emphasized the strategic importance of this investment. He stated, "When all the lines are functional, we will be able to sort 500,000 parcels daily," highlighting the transformative potential of this upgrade in logistics capabilities.

In addition to the new sorting equipment, Poșta Română is also in the process of acquiring 80 new vans to support its expanding courier services. The total estimated investment for this acquisition amounts to 18,964,298 lei, excluding VAT, which is approximately 4 million euros. Currently, the company operates with over 1,000 vehicles, and the new vans will be acquired through financial leasing over four years.

The contract for the new vehicles is divided into two lots: the first lot includes 40 vans of 3.5 tons, Furgon type, and the second lot consists of 40 vans of 3.5 tons, Box body with lifting shutter. This strategic acquisition is part of a broader initiative to modernize and digitalize the company, alongside recent investments in IT equipment, automation, and the development of new services.

With annual revenues exceeding one billion lei, Poșta Română stands as the largest local operator in its field, employing over 24,000 staff members and maintaining a territorial network of more than 5,600 units. The company's recent investments reflect its commitment to adapting to the rapidly changing demands of the logistics industry, particularly as the demand for courier and rapid delivery services continues to grow.

As Poșta Română continues to enhance its infrastructure, the modernization efforts are expected to improve service delivery and customer satisfaction significantly. The integration of advanced sorting technology and the expansion of its vehicle fleet are crucial steps in ensuring that the company remains competitive in an increasingly digital and fast-paced market.

In conclusion, the installation of the new sorting equipment at the Galați HUB marks a pivotal moment for Poșta Română as it embraces innovation to meet the evolving needs of its customers and the logistics sector.
