Porsche 911 GT2 RS: A Performance Phenomenon Unleashed

With groundbreaking modifications, the iconic sports car redefines track supremacy and power.

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS, long heralded as one of the most powerful variants of the iconic German sports car, has received remarkable performance enhancements, elevat

ing its status even higher. What makes this model exhilarating is its rear-engine design, propelling it to produce 700 hp (approximately 515 kW) through its rear wheels. But thanks to innovative aftermarket tuning by Manhart, this powerhouse has been modified to produce jaw-dropping figures of up to 980 PS (967 hp), demonstrating just how much potential this model holds.

Manhart’s audacious tuning, dubbed the TR950, has transformed the already formidable 911 GT2 RS, allowing it to deliver 1,090 Nm of torque to the asphalt. This staggering output is made possible through careful modifications to the turbocharging system, utilizing larger TTH turbos, and updating both the air intake and cooling systems, including the introduction of a custom aluminum intake manifold crafted by Manhart itself. Notably, the tuned exhaust system now comprises sports-grade catalytic converters, optimized for maximum performance but without TÜV certification, thereby limiting their use within Germany.

The modifications go beyond just the engine, as significant updates were made to the car's electronic systems to manage the increased power. The entire electronic management of the engine has undergone reprogramming, as well as updates for all electronic assists within the car, ensuring everything operates seamlessly together. To meet the demands of the new power levels, Manhart has introduced enhanced suspension components, with Manthey-KW springs providing grip without compromising comfort. The existing carbon-ceramic brakes have proven sufficient, allowing them to remain unaltered.

Aerodynamically, the Manhart TR950 has received extensive upgrades as well. New carbon-fiber components have been added to nearly the entire body of the car, including front splitters with extensions, side skirts, and a redesigned diffuser to improve downforce and stability at high speeds. With these modifications, each TR950 can be customized to suit individual tastes, ensuring no two vehicles are alike.

Meanwhile, another 911 GT2 RS has made headlines on the race track, breaking records at the Interlagos Circuit situated just outside São Paulo, Brazil. This achievement by Ricardo Mauricio highlights the car's performance capabilities, having defeated the previous production car lap record of 1:37.856 set by the McLaren Senna with an astounding time of 1:36.967, nearly one second faster. Powered by the Manthey racing performance kit, this modified vehicle showcased the potential of the GT2 RS when adequately endowed.

The 2.67-mile Interlagos track, known for its varied layout featuring tight bends and high-speed straightways, posed significant challenges for drivers. From video footage reviewing Mauricio's record-breaking lap, he effortlessly navigated the circuit, reaching speeds of 166 mph and managing to control the car with impressive skill, reminiscent of legendary laps seen at tracks like the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

Porsche officially remarked, "Another record for the Porsche 911 GT2 RS with Manthey Racing performance kit from Stuttgart!" signifying the significance of this achievement. With the history of Porsche and their collaboration with Manthey on previous records, it’s inferred this isn’t merely coincidence but the result of rigorous engineering and performance foresight.

Over recent years, Porsche had already stamped its dominance across various tracks, with the GT2 RS setting records at both the Nürburgring and Road Atlanta. The anticipation surrounding any record set seems to always ignite potential rivalries; speculations abound about competitors like McLaren who might not remain passive after this latest demonstration of Porsche's prowess.

While car enthusiasts and collectors alike now eagerly await to see how other brands might respond to these incredible lap achievements and modifications, it highlights the GT2 RS's unique capability for raw performance enhancements and its ever-intensifying legacy.

With the tuning by Manhart and achievement highlighted at Interlagos, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS continues to solidify its place not just as a formidable contender on the street, but also as a benchmark within the world of motorsports.
