Concerns over animal welfare have been raised dramatically following the recent discovery of over 40 animals living under deplorable conditions by police in Caras-Severin County, Romania. Authorities from the local Animal Protection Office were alerted about the situation involving a 55-year-old woman who resides illegally in Duleu.
Upon arrival, the police found the animals—including dogs, donkeys, goats, pigs, and cats—lacked proper shelter, sufficient food and water, and adequate space for movement. Disturbingly, four animals—including three goats and one pig—were already dead. According to the report from Poliția Caraș-Severin, "La fața locului polițiștii au găsit peste 40 de animale, câini, măgari, capre, porci și pisici, care nu beneficiau de un adăpost corespunzător, hrană, apă suficiente și posibilitate de mișcare. Printre acestea, 4 animale, 3 capre și un porc, erau moarte. Animalele nu erau identificate si nu beneficiau de asistență medicală obligatorie." Following their investigation, the police imposed six fines totaling 22,000 lei against the woman responsible for the animals, aiming to highlight the grave violations of animal welfare standards observed during the inspection.
