Police Investigate Sexual Assault At Virginia High School

Osbourn Park High School faces scrutiny after reported assault involving masked suspect

MANASSAS, VA — A troubling incident at Osbourn Park High School has raised serious concerns within the community. The Prince William County Police are currently investigating a report of sexual assault involving a student and an unknown perpetrator wearing an animal mask. This incident reportedly took place during the first two weeks of the 2024-2025 school year but was only brought to light recently.

Details surrounding the assault began to emerge following reports made by the victim on November 15. According to police, the victim, identified as an adult female student, stated she was assaulted inside a restroom located near the gym. The suspect allegedly entered her stall, leading to the assault.

The description of the suspect is somewhat vague but includes key details. Authorities have described the individual as either Caucasian or light-skinned, with a thin build, and standing between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall. At the time of the assault, the assailant was wearing dark-colored clothing consisting of long sleeves and full-length pants, capped off by the unsettling addition of the animal costume mask, which obscured their face and gender.

Following the reports, Osbourn Park Principal Lisamarie Kane sent out letters to parents and guardians, expressing her deep concern for the safety of all students. “It is with a heavy heart,” she wrote, “that I must inform you of this deeply troubling incident. We are deeply saddened by this event and are providing support to the victim and their family during this challenging time.”

Principal Kane noted several actions the school is taking to bolster safety protocols. Moving forward, access to bathrooms will be limited during instructional hours, and there will be increased supervision throughout hallways and common areas. These changes aim to create a safe environment and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

Kane reassured the school community of the administration's commitment to maintaining student welfare, emphasizing, “We understand the gravity of this situation and the concern it may cause.” For those affected by the assault or seeking assistance, counseling services are readily available, she stated.

The nature of the assault not only raises alarms within the school but has also attracted attention and concern from the broader community. Residents and parents alike are understandably worried about the incident's implications on school safety. Police authorities have urged anyone who might have additional information about the situation to step forward, asking them to reach out via the Prince William County police hotline.

This incident highlights the challenges schools face when ensuring student safety. The unsettling circumstances surrounding the assault have stirred discussions about the adequacy of safety measures currently employed within school systems. Advocates for enhanced school safety have long underscored the need for adequate resources, staff training, and preventative measures.

While investigations are underway, the community has rallied to express solidarity with the affected student and her family. The support network includes parents, teachers, and local organizations working together to strengthen the community's response to such violence and distressing incidents.

Aside from the immediate measures being implemented, there is likely to be greater scrutiny of the effectiveness of school safety policies and whether they adequately protect students. After all, safety must be prioritized to promote not only physical security but also the emotional well-being of students.

The investigation remains open, with police continuing to gather information. The community watches closely, hopeful for justice and eager for improvements to come from this disheartening event. Time will tell how this situation evolves, but as the investigation proceeds, one thing remains crystal clear: the safety of students must always come first.

Anyone with pertinent information is encouraged to call the Prince William County police at 703-792-6500 or submit tips on their website. The efforts to keep Osbourn Park High School and its students safe are ramping up as officials work collaboratively with law enforcement to address this distressing situation.
