Police investigations have revealed the egging incident involving a group of young women at Bondi Beach was not motivated by antisemitism, contrary to initial beliefs. The event unfolded on Saturday night when two teenage boys allegedly engaged in erratic behavior, throwing eggs at pedestrians, which led to questions about the motivations behind their actions.
The evening began at around 9:30 PM, when five women walking along Glenayr Avenue were pelted with eggs from a silver sedan. The vehicle was later located after it crashed onto the kerb on Plumer Road, with its engine still running and containing evidence linked to the egging—specifically, empty jerry cans and egg cartons.
Initially, the authorities, including Detective Superintendent Darren Newman of the New South Wales Police, suggested the egging could have been targeted, as the victims were wearing Star of David necklaces. This attire raised concerns about potential antisemitic motives, particularly amid rising attacks on Jewish communities across Sydney, including recent incidents of firebombings and vandalism.
On Tuesday, police backtracked on their earlier assessment, stating there was no evidence to suggest the incident was ideologically motivated. next week. The younger boy was charged as well but granted conditional bail.
