Poland Enhances Family Support With 800 Plus Changes

Starting January 1, 2024, parents can claim 800 zł per child under new ZUS regulations.

The Polish government has officially announced significant changes to its child benefits program, "Rodzina 800 Plus," aimed at providing enhanced financial support to families starting January 1, 2024. The increase from 500 zł to 800 zł per child marks a major commitment to assist families throughout the nation.

This much-anticipated adjustment allows parents and legal guardians to claim benefits up to the age of 18 for each child, irrespective of family income. It is part of broader efforts to alleviate the financial burden of raising children, echoing similar initiatives seen across Europe.

According to ZUS (Zakład Ubezpieczeń Społecznych), nearly 66 billion zł was allocated to support around 7.3 million children via this program over the past year. Specific regions, like Podlaskie, have reported over 211,000 benefitted children, receiving nearly 2 billion zł.

Parents and guardians are reminded about the timelines for application, which begin on February 1, 2025, for the new benefit period covering from June 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026. Applications can only be submitted electronically, utilizing platforms such as PUE/eZUS, Emp@tia, or the mZUS mobile application. The mZUS app has been particularly user-friendly, permitting users to track their application status and update necessary information seamlessly.

The Ministry of Social Policy emphasizes the importance of timely submissions. "Submitting the application by April 30 means maintaining continuity of benefit payments," it stated. Those parents who apply late can still receive benefits, but payouts will be adjusted back only to the application date.

Another important aspect of the changes is the eligibility for families who share custody of their child. Under the new rules, when both parents share custody, the benefit amount is halved, with each parent receiving 400 zł per month. This aims to promote fair distribution of support between both parents.

With the growing presence of Ukrainian families, new regulations have been introduced requiring verification of residency status and enrollment of children in Polish schools. This entails compliance with educational obligations laid down for all children residing in Poland, aiming to integrate these families successfully.

Wojciech Dyląg from ZUS stated, "The application starts from February 1," marking a clear beginning for families to initiate their claims. The focus on Ukrainian families demonstrates how the program adapts to changing demographics and needs.

The new verification protocols have drawn interest from various quarters, as Dziennik Gazeta Prawna notes, "The verification of the correctness of 800 plus applications is based on close cooperation between ZUS and other institutions..." This ensures not only program integrity but also aligns with modern administrative practices.

Overall, the 800 Plus program reflects the Polish government's commitment to supporting families as they navigate the costs of raising children. With increased benefits set to start next year and new application processes coming to the fore, this program stands as a beacon of support for many Polish families.

With participation from all fronts, including compliance checks for educational requirements, the Polish government aims to deliver on its promise of enhanced family support. The assistance not only provides financial relief but furthers the integration of diverse communities within the country as it opens its arms to those seeking safety and stability.
