JAMMU, January 31: The contribution of the Sikh community to society and the nation has been truly recognized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who admires the community for its selfless service and has taken significant steps for its welfare, said J&K BJP President Sat Sharma. He made these remarks during his address to a deputation of Sikh community members at the party headquarters located in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu.
Sat Sharma highlighted several initiatives taken by PM Modi for the Sikh community, including the opening of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, establishment of the Shree Guru Nanak Ji Chair at a British university, the declaration of Sultanpur Lodhi as a heritage city, and the decision to commemorate December 26 every year as Veer Baal Diwas. This special day honors Chhote Sahibzadas, the sons of Guru Gobind Singh, acknowledging their sacrifices and legacy.
According to Sharma, it was due to PM Modi’s dedicated efforts and commitment to Sikh heritage and values the holy Shree Guru Granth Sahib was brought back to India from Afghanistan with full respect. This historical act symbolizes not just political will but also cultural recognition and restoration.
During this meeting, the group of social activists and prominent members from the Sikh community was led by S. Kamalpreet Singh from Sainik Colony, Jammu. They came not only to express gratitude but also to address various pressing issues impacting their locality. The deputation congratulated Sat Sharma on his recent election as BJP state president and lauded the Prime Minister for his continuous support toward the Sikh community.
The members of the deputation raised several concerns related to infrastructure and civic amenities, which included their urgent need for the construction of a community hall for senior citizens, as well as the establishment of a cremation ground and hospital within the Sainik Colony area. They stressed the need to address issues such as the maintenance of lanes, drains, and streetlights, alongside highlighting their need for regular drinking water supply, security concerns, and issues related to stray cattle roaming on the roads.
Sharma appreciated their proactive approach, noting the importance of community involvement and collective efforts for local welfare. He assured them all their concerns would be taken up with priority. "The Modi government believes firmly in the principle of 'Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas,'" Sharma stated, underlining the government’s commitment to inclusive development addressing the needs of all communities and regions, especially those which have been neglected previously.
Continuing, Sharma emphasized, "The policies and schemes initiated by the Modi government reflect its deep commitment to the socio-economic development of society, considering historical and cultural perspectives. We aim to uplift not just the Sikhs but all communities and bring significant enhancement to their living conditions and opportunities."
