PM Modi Celebrates ITBP's 63rd Raising Day

Prime Minister praises Indo-Tibetan Border Police for their unwavering dedication and service

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently extended warm greetings to the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) "Himveers" on the occasion of their 63rd Raising Day, celebrating their unwavering dedication and brave service on India's challenging border with China.

On October 24, Modi shared his heartfelt message via social media platform X, expressing deep appreciation for the ITBP personnel who operate under harsh conditions. "This Force stands tall as a symbol of valour and dedication. They protect us, including in some of the most challenging terrains and tough climatic conditions. Their efforts during natural disasters and rescue operations inspire immense pride among the people," he wrote.

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police was established following the 1962 Sino-Indian War. Today, the ITBP is tasked with safeguarding India’s 3,488-kilometer Line of Actual Control (LAC) bordering China. The ITBP is composed of around 90,000 personnel who not only defend the border but also assist during national disasters and humanitarian crises.

Modi's message was echoed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who also took to X to send his salutations. Shah remarked, "Greetings to the personnel of the ITBP on their Raising Day. Their unwavering dedication to protecting our nation amid extreme weather conditions is truly remarkable. The nation takes immense pride in their bravery and patriotism. My salutations to the immortal Himveers who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation." This recognition highlights how integral the ITBP's role is, not just for border control, but also for broader national security tasks.

Further acknowledging the commitment of ITBP personnel, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan expressed similar sentiments on X. Rijiju stated, "The Nation is proud of your sacrifice in guarding and protecting our motherland. Salute to #Himveer @ITBP_official," emphasizing the pride felt at every level of government for their contributions.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath joined the chorus of support, lauding the ITBP for its steadfast dedication: "Hearty congratulations and best wishes on the foundation day of 'Indo-Tibetan Border Police' to the brave soldiers of @ITBP_official and their families who strengthen the security of the Indo-Tibetan border with their valour and dedication! The courage of ITBP soldiers, remaining steadfast even in difficult circumstances, is celebrated across India. Jai Hind!"

Even as the nation honours the ITBP’s commitment on Raising Day, Modi also took the opportunity to celebrate the government’s recent decision to confer classical language status on Pali, adding another layer of significance to the day. He remarked, "Glad the Indian Government’s decision of conferring Classical Language status on Pali has ignited joy among those who believe in the thoughts of Bhagwan Buddha. Grateful to the scholars and monks from different nations who took part in this program in Colombo," highlighting the importance of cultural heritage alongside national security.

The ITBP celebrates Raising Day not merely as a reflection of history but as a reaffirmation of its role as fiercely protective guardians of India. From providing security on treacherous Himalayan borders to extending hand during natural calamities, the essence of ITBP’s diverse duties reaffirms its stature not just as a military force but as indispensable custodians of safety and service.

This year’s observations of the ITBP Raising Day serve as reminders of the sacrifices made by countless personnel over the decades, and the continuing importance of resilience and dedication, traits synonymous with the very spirit of India’s defenders.

Overall, the Raising Day is more than just formalities and celebratory wishes; it’s about acknowledging the lives of those who serve. It evokes deep feelings of pride, unity, and respect among not merely the officials and their families, but the entire nation watching from afar, ready to stand alongside those at the frontlines of security.
