A tragic midair collision near Washington, D.C. has claimed the lives of multiple figure skaters and coaches who were en route home from the U.S. Figure Skatings National Development Camp. The crash occurred late Wednesday night when American Airlines Flight 5342 collided with Army Black Hawk helicopter, resulting in numerous fatalities.
Among the 67 individuals aboard the aircraft were six members of The Skaking Club of Boston, including talented teenagers Spencer Lane and Jinna Han, their mothers, and their two coaches, Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov. The flight was returning from Kansas at the time of the crash, plunging tragically near the Potomac River shortly before landing at Reagan Washington National Airport.
Reports indicate the plane was making its final approach when the helicopter, on a routine training mission, crossed its path. The crash raised immediate fears for the safety of all those onboard, which were confirmed as authorities transitioned from search and rescue operations to recovery efforts the following day.

The crew was led by 28-year-old pilot Sam Lilley, who was engaged and had deep family ties to the region.
