Pininfarina Launches First Coachbuilt Electric Hypercar

The Battista Targamerica sets new benchmarks for luxury and performance at Monterey Car Week

Automobili Pininfarina has made waves in the luxury car market with the debut of the Battista Targamerica, the world’s first coach-built electric hypercar. Unveiled at The Quail, A Motorsport Gathering during Monterey Car Week, this car is not just another addition to the hypercar category; it sets new standards for performance and personalization.

The commissioning of the Battista Targamerica began during the 2023 Monterey Car Week, and within just one year, the vehicle was delivered to its proud owner. With its name referencing both its unique roofless design and its American home, this stunning machine embodies the fusion of art and engineering.

This hypercar stands out not just for its performance but for its artistic sensibilities. Handcrafted by skilled artisans at Pininfarina’s facilities in Cambiano, Italy, it seamlessly reflects the individuality and tastes of its owner.

Paolo Dellachà, CEO of Automobili Pininfarina, stated, "This is a seminal moment, delivering our first coach-built one-off vehicle to a client. The Battista Targamerica, like no other vehicle before, demonstrates the infinite possibilities our highly skilled team can design and engineer."

The design elements of the Battista Targamerica pay homage to Pininfarina’s storied legacy, particularly the 1986 Ferrari Testarossa Spider, which was commissioned for Fiat Chairman Gianni Agnelli. Its silver and blue color scheme, along with distinctive exterior lines, elegantly blend nostalgia with futuristic aesthetics.

Not just about looks, the Battista Targamerica is also engineered for performance. Powered by four independent electric motors and equipped with a high-capacity 120kWh lithium-ion battery, it produces 1,900 horsepower and an astonishing 2,340 Nm of torque.

Under two seconds is all it takes for this hypercar to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, and it boasts an impressive top speed exceeding 300 km/h. Pininfarina's cutting-edge engineering ensures the car doesn't just look stunning—it's built to perform.

The Battista's unique design challenges have pushed Automobili Pininfarina’s team to rethink traditional hypercar structure. Andrea Crespi, Chief Technical Officer, mentioned, "The commission forced us to challenge ourselves to deliver Battista performance levels without the tensile support of a hard-body roof." This innovative approach resulted in creative solutions to maintain the car's impressive performance metrics.

The bespoke features of the Battista Targamerica go beyond just aesthetics, showcasing elements reflecting its owner's lifestyle. From custom-built cigar holders to elegant touches throughout the interior, every aspect caters to the owner’s personality.

This vehicle is regarded not merely as transportation but rather as a work of art and statement of individuality. The emergence of the Battista Targamerica marks Automobili Pininfarina's unwavering commitment to handcrafting unique masterpieces, which perfectly marry state-of-the-art technology and timeless design.

With its debut at such high-profile events, the Battista Targamerica is aimed directly at collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate both the history and innovation of automotive design. This hypercar not only encapsulates the essence of luxury performance but also serves as a potential centerpiece for conversations about the future of electric vehicles and coachbuilding.

By setting such high standards, Automobili Pininfarina has positioned itself as not just another luxury car manufacturer, but as trailblazers redefining what defines high performance and bespoke luxury. The Battista Targamerica is not just the future of driving; it’s the future of personalized automotive art.

The hype around this vehicle isn't merely about numbers; it’s also deeply rooted in the artistry of its construction. Each stitch and detail serves under the philosophy of creating 'Dream Cars, Made Real,' shaping the expectations of what collectors will pursue.

While the Battista Targamerica may be among the pinnacle of modern vehicles, it also connects the past with the future. It symbolizes how automotive artistry can evolve and adapt, embracing electric technology without losing the charm of classic design aesthetics.

With the world’s automotive elite gathered for Monterey Car Week, it was the Battista Targamerica stealing the spotlight, showcasing Pininfarina's potential for creating deeply personalized vehicles. Collectors can expect this hypercar to reside among the most prestigious collections worldwide, defining luxury and performance for years to come.
