PhonePe Launches Health Insurance For Dengue And Malaria At ₹59

Affordable coverage promises peace of mind for users with year-round protection against vector-borne diseases

New Delhi: Digital financial services platform PhonePe has rolled out what many are dubbing the "game-changer"—a health insurance plan for dengue and malaria starting at just ₹59 per year. This innovative product is aimed primarily at providing financial security against the risks associated with vector-borne diseases, particularly for those residing in tier-II and tier-III cities across India.

The plan, introduced on December 3, 2024, promises comprehensive coverage up to ₹1 lakh related to hospitalization, diagnostics, and ICU stays incurred due to illnesses such as dengue and malaria. But that's not all; it also includes protection against more than ten major health conditions. These encompass ailments like chikungunya, filariasis, Japanese encephalitis, swine flu, bird flu, typhoid, pulmonary tuberculosis, and meningitis.

Traditionally, health insurance options for vector-borne diseases have been limited and often seasonal, typically focusing on the monsoon period when such diseases peak. PhonePe's plan stands out by offering year-round coverage, ensuring constant protection, and providing peace of mind to users even during off-peak seasons. This is particularly important for residents of smaller cities, where the strain of medical expenses can be overwhelming.

PhonePe's Chief Executive Officer of Insurance Broking Services, Vishal Gupta, emphasized the company’s commitment to making insurance accessible and affordable for everyone. “We aim to empower our users to manage health risks effectively by eliminating financial barriers to quality care,” he stated. Gupta also noted the intention to create tailor-made solutions for underserved populations across the country.

This digital-first approach allows users to effortlessly purchase, manage, and even file claims through the PhonePe app. With its fully digital claims process, the insurance is set to provide faster settlements, significantly streamlining the often tedious paperwork involved traditionally. Even individuals with corporate health coverage can opt for this supplementary plan, promoting added layers of security against specific health risks.

To avail of the insurance, users can easily navigate to the insurance section on the PhonePe app, select the dengue and malaria insurance plan, and follow the on-screen instructions to review the details. The application process involves filling out policyholder information and completing the payment inline, all within minutes.
