Kinetic Games has rolled out its roadmap for the horror game Phasmophobia, laying out exciting updates planned for 2025. The beloved co-op ghost-hunting title has captivated audiences since its early access debut, and this year promises to bring extensive improvements and fresh content.
Two significant updates are on the horizon: Chronicle and the Player Character Overhaul. The Chronicle update is particularly noteworthy as it will entirely revamp the game's journal system. Instead of the traditional Photos tab, players will receive the upgraded Media tab, which will encompass photos, videos, and sound recordings, making evidence collection more streamlined. According to Kinetic, “Chronicle will also bring with it a few extra bits aside from what we’ve mentioned, but we’re keeping those a secret until we’re closer to launch.”
With over 22 million copies sold, Phasmophobia has become one of the most successful multiplayer horror games. The game recently made its console debut on platforms like PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, boosting its popularity and reach.
This year, players can look forward to seasonal events celebrating Easter, Halloween, and the December holidays, with planned improvements based on community feedback. The team at Kinetic expressed their dedication to enhancing player experiences, with updates for existing maps like the Bleasdale Farmhouse, which will receive extensive reworks.
“These reworks are all about bringing these maps in line with our full vision for them,” Kinetic stated. The developers assured fans they would still recognize beloved locations amid the freshness. First to be launched is the Bleasdale overhauls, set for March 2025, followed by updates to the Grafton Farmhouse and Tanglewood Drive.
Another fascinating addition set for release this year is the Sound Recorder, enabling players to capture unique paranormal noises. Reports suggest the update will reward players for their first capture of any media type, enhancing the overall gameplay experience.
While much focus has been on 2025, Kinetic Games is not stopping there. Plans are already underway for 2026, including major updates like Horror 2.0, which will overhauls many systems within Phasmophobia, bringing more engaging content and immersive gameplay mechanics.
Kinetic has teased players about the transformation of ghost events and anticipated new features, emphasizing the direction they want to take with the series. “We’re beyond excited for the new updates and reworks coming to Phasmophobia this year,” said Daniel Knight, Director and Lead Developer of Kinetic Games. “The big changes we’re making are reflected directly from the feedback we’re seeing from our amazing community.”
This year looks bright for Phasmophobia. With engaging updates, thrilling seasonal scares, and the promise of surprise features, Kinetic Games seems to be proving they have their fingers on the pulse of what players desire. Players can continue engaging with their ghost-hunting friends and exploring revamped maps and characters, ensuring the thrills last well beyond 2025.
