PGA Tour Members Vote For Player Advisory Council Co-Chairmen

Rickie Fowler, Maverick McNealy, and Keith Mitchell contest for leadership roles as governance structure evolves.

PGA Tour members are currently voting to elect two co-chairmen for the Player Advisory Council (PAC), with the election set to conclude on April 14, 2025. Candidates include the well-known player Rickie Fowler, Maverick McNealy, and Keith Mitchell, who were officially announced as candidates on March 18, 2025.

The two leading vote-getters will replace current player directors Peter Malnati and Webb Simpson, taking their positions on January 1, 2026. Historically, golfer engagement in decision-making processes has shaped the Tour's policies, and these new elections underscore the importance of representation within the PGA structure.

As the Tour transitions to a new governance structure, only one PAC chairman will be elected each year moving forward. The player who receives the most votes will be PAC chairman to serve a four-year term, while the player receiving the second-most votes will take on the role of PAC co-chair, serving a three-year term.

“In examining the governance process to better reflect the organizational changes made over the last several years, improved alignment has been a part of those discussions,” stated PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan, highlighting the purpose behind the electoral changes. This shift is anticipated to enhance year-to-year continuity among the six Player Directors and facilitate swifter, informed decision-making by the Policy Board.

The PAC not only serves as an advisory board but also represents the views and concerns of the players to the PGA Tour Policy Board. Candidates Fowler, McNealy, and Mitchell were selected by the player directors, reflecting the confidence vested in them by their peers.

In addition to their roles in this election, the PAC members serve on various subcommittees formed in 2024, including Business Affairs, Competitions, Pathways, and Tournaments, Fans & Sponsors, allowing players to focus on critical aspects of the Tour's operations.

Fowler, while a prominent figure in the Tour, has recently faced challenges on the course. Notably, he withdrew from the 2025 Valspar Championship and recorded a 12-over score at the Players Championship, finishing 71st the prior week. Despite these setbacks, Fowler continues to play an active role in the PAC and was part of the 'Fans & Sponsors' subcommittee, working with players like in the commercial aspects of the game.

On the other hand, McNealy and Mitchell are positioned on the Business Affairs subcommittee, reflecting their involvement in the financial and logistical decisions of the PGA. The election has significant importance as the incoming directors will join renowned players, including Tiger Woods and Adam Scott, who are also currently serving within the Advisory Council and are involved in pivotal discussions, including negotiations concerning the peace deal between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf.

Player representation has grown increasingly vital in developing the Tour’s direction, and Fowler's candidacy aligns him with this growing leadership dynamic. This will mark a significant year, as the newly elected leaders will need to navigate various challenges facing professional golf.

As the election date approaches, players are encouraged to cast their votes, knowing that the outcomes will shape the future of their representation within the PGA. The urgency of this electoral period coupled with the high-profile nature of the candidates has generated substantial attention in the golf community.

The involvement of high-caliber individuals within governance roles marks a clear shift aimed at engaging players in areas directly affecting their careers and interests. The ongoing dialogue among players and the Board illustrates a concerted effort to align interests and enhance the game's growth into the future.

Voting closes at 5 p.m. ET on April 14, 2025, and players are urged to participate as these initial decisions will lay the foundation for how the PGA Tour adapts in an ever-evolving sporting environment.
