Pet-Friendly Condos Gain Popularity Among Buyers In Bangkok

The demand for pet-friendly living spaces reflects changing lifestyles as they now appeal strongly to singles and younger generations.

As the demand for pet-friendly condominiums continues to surge, a recent study reveals just how much these properties appeal to buyers, particularly in Bangkok. The monthly survey conducted by LWS (LW Solutions) in collaboration with LPN Development Co., shows a significant shift in consumer behavior that aligns with the lifestyle preferences of the younger population.

Praphansuk Rakchaiwan, managing director of LWS, shared insights from the detailed survey involving 183 respondents conducted in January 2025: 58% of the participants were female, 35% male, and 7% identified as LGBTQ+. Most respondents, aged between 29 to 44 years, demonstrated a stable economic standing, with 58% reporting a monthly income between 25,000 to 75,000 baht, while 18% earned above 75,000 baht.

According to the findings, a striking 75% of respondents expressed a keen interest in purchasing condominiums priced between 3 to 5 million baht, with a significant portion being composed of singles—67% of whom showed predilection towards pet-friendly homes. This response highlights not only a demand for living spaces that accommodate pets but also reflects broader lifestyle changes.

The survey focused on specific sought-after locations, identifying three prime areas: 1) Ratchayothin-Chatuchak-Bang Sue, with budgets between 2 to 4 million baht; 2) Ratchada-Rama 9-Phetchaburi Tat Mai, with budget ranges of 1 to 3 million baht; and 3) Phrakhanong-On Nut-Bang Chak, also within the realm of 1 to 3 million baht. The popularity of these locales is attributed to their proximity to workplaces and convenient transportation options, combined with nearby pet care facilities such as veterinary hospitals, grooming salons, and pet-friendly hotels.

The evolving preferences noted in this survey resonate with a separate study conducted by Mahidol University in 2023, highlighting that 49% of the younger generation, largely belonging to “Gen Y” (aged 24-41), considers pets as family members. This trend adheres to the emerging concept of “Pawrents,” which involves treating pets as integral family figures.

Moreover, Rakchaiwan pointed out an interesting market aspect: condominiums that allow pets can be rented out for 10-15% more than regular units, reflecting the renters’ willingness to pay a premium for such accommodations. This may create investment opportunities for buyers looking to capitalize on the increasing demand in this niche market. "In a sluggish economy where purchasing power is declining due to high household debt levels, property developers must create projects that stand out and meet buyers' unique needs," he advised. "The market is now leaning towards properties that are not only designed for living but also cater to investment opportunities as well.”

The research findings suggest that a competitive edge for developers may involve creating developments where pets are welcomed, thereby tapping into a segment of the market that is showing strong purchasing power and a desire for improved living conditions.

As Bangkok's real estate landscape continues to adapt to these notable consumer trends, it's clear that the integration of pet-friendly features in condominium developments can resonate well with a demographic that prioritizes both comfort and companionship.

In sum, the data indicates an interesting transition in the property buying behavior and preferences in urban areas. Developers are urged to reconsider their strategies and focus on delivering condominiums that align with lifestyle choices reflecting pet ownership. Innovations in living spaces that embrace this trend may very likely secure future success and ensure targeted consumer satisfaction.

The emerging trend surrounding 'pet-friendly homes' signifies an evolving market that property firms cannot afford to ignore; as such, it encourages greater inclusivity in property discussions and possible developments aimed precisely at catering to these emerging needs.

The significance of this trend lies not just in improving property sales but in transforming lifestyles, as the millennial generation continually prioritizes their pets’ needs and comfort alongside their own living conditions.
