Peru Allocates Over 49 Million Soles For Teacher Bonuses

More than 445,000 educators will benefit from the extraordinary bonus aimed at improving working conditions.

The Ministry of Education (Minedu) of Peru has made headlines recently by transferring over 49 million soles to ensure the distribution of a significant bonus of S/113 to teachers and education assistants across the country. The announcement, made on March 24, 2025, underlines the government's commitment to supporting the education sector at a critical time of the year, benefiting over 445,000 educators.

This financial initiative aims to recognize the crucial contributions of teachers in basic, technical-productive, and higher education. Specifically, the bonus is set to assist 434,955 appointed and contracted teachers in basic and technical-productive education, along with job assistants in educational institutions managed by the Ministry of Defense. Additionally, 11,282 educators from higher education institutes and schools will also receive this financial support.

“Our teachers are essential for the development of the country, and this economic effort seeks to recognize their work and provide better working conditions,” stated Morgan Quero, the Minister of Education, highlighting the government's commitment to valuing its educators. This bonus is part of broader efforts to enhance the teaching profession, especially regarding stability and remuneration in Peru.

However, this bonus is not automatically distributed to all educators. To qualify, teachers and education assistants in basic and technical-productive education must fulfill certain requirements: they must maintain a valid employment relationship as of June 28, 2024, and be registered in the AIRHSP (Aplicativo Informático para el Registro Centralizado de Planillas y de Datos de los Recursos Humanos del Sector Público) application of the Ministry of Economy and Finance by December 31, 2024. For those in higher education institutions, registration in the AIRHSP must be completed by May 31, 2024.

The AIRHSP serves a critical role in the registration and validation of educators eligible for the bonus. It is a digital platform that centralizes essential human resource information concerning public sector employees, streamlining the management of educators across the country. This approach ensures an efficient and accurate distribution of financial support to deserving educators.

Out of the total budget allocated for this bonus, approximately 42 million soles are designated for regional governments and the Ministry of Defense, while around 7 million soles are directed to the Regional Directorate of Education and the UGEL (Local Educational Management Units) of Lima Metropolitana. This financial strategy demonstrates a concrete effort from the government to elevate the teaching profession through tangible support.

The recent transfer not only serves immediate monetary needs but is also seen as a critical component in a larger initiative to revalue the teaching career in the nation. Aligning with collective negotiations between Minedu and educators' unions, both the bonus and forthcoming salary increments aim to create more favorable conditions for Peru's educators.

As the education sector faces numerous challenges, such as adapting to new teaching methodologies and supporting diverse learner needs, this initiative could play a pivotal role in enhancing the overall quality of education in the country. By empowering educators financially, the government hopes to foster a more stable and motivated workforce, ultimately benefiting the students they serve.

In conclusion, this extraordinary bonus is a vital recognition of the hard work and dedication of teachers and education assistants in Peru. With the government’s commitment to improving educators' working conditions, these measures could significantly impact the landscape of education, promoting excellence and stability in the teaching profession.
