Perth Celebrates New Cardup Fire Station Opening

Local community gears up for open day event at the newly established career fire station.

Perth, Australia - The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale is set to mark a historic milestone with the opening of its first career fire station, the Cardup Fire Station. This modern facility will officially begin operations next month, fulfilling years of advocacy by local officials to strengthen emergency services within Perth's rapidly growing south-east corridor.

Located at the corner of Doley and Orton Roads, the new station, which cost $14.5 million, will be crewed by 36 firefighters and equipped with three fire appliances. The announcement for this significant addition to the community was made by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) back in November 2022. Since then, anticipation has grown steadily among local residents.

To celebrate the opening, the community is invited to attend an open day this Saturday from 11 am to 1 pm. This event presents an exciting opportunity for local residents to engage with their firefighters directly, take behind-the-scenes tours, and see live demonstrations of equipment and firefighting techniques.

Children will be particularly delighted as they will have the chance to sit inside the cab of modern fire trucks. Visitors can also appreciate history showcased by the display of a vintage fire appliance from the 1940s. All this, coupled with a free sausage sizzle, promises to create a lively and welcoming atmosphere for the community.

Deputy Commissioner Craig Waters of the DFES praised the new facility, stating, "The state-of-the-art Cardup Fire Station will support all of our dedicated volunteers in the area and strengthen our resources to help keep the local community, properties, and environment safe.” This statement highlights the collaborative efforts between career firefighters and dedicated volunteers, which are pivotal for safeguarding local communities.

The Cardup Fire Station's establishment is part of a larger strategy to future-proof emergency services as Perth's population continues to soar. With growing suburban areas and higher residential densities, the demand for immediate and effective fire response has never been more pronounced. The state government recognized this need and has focused on enhancing resources across the board.

More than just local firefighting support, the Cardup Fire Station symbolizes the personal investment the community has made concerning its safety and wellbeing. By establishing this facility, local officials aim to provide the necessary services to respond adequately to incidents and emergencies.

This initiative reflects shifting dynamics within communities, where collaborative approaches between government departments, local councils, and residents lead to improved public services. The Cardup Fire Station stands as evidence of what can be achieved when community voices come together around shared interests and needs.

Beyond firefighting capabilities, the open day event seeks to cultivate community interest and connection with emergency services. Building these relationships is imperative as the role of firefighters extends beyond responding to emergencies. It encompasses educational efforts, fire prevention strategies, and community safety initiatives.

Seizing this opportunity, the local population can learn firsthand about the fire department's operations and the importance of active community engagement to maintain safety standards. The Cardup Fire Station is primed to become not just a firefighting hub but also a center where community spirit can flourish around shared goals of safety.

Overall, the opening of the Cardup Fire Station marks not just the enhancement of emergency response capabilities for Serpentine Jarrahdale but also the vibrant collaboration existing within the community. It is these collective efforts, informed by resident advocacy and government support, which will continue to pave the way for future safety initiatives.
