Dave Bell, a photographer from Pinedale, emphasized the element of luck involved as he recounted his own experiences trying to photograph meteors. "I was hoping to get a meteor streaking through the aurora last night, but I waited and waited and only saw two or three meteors the whole night," Bell explained.
The Perseids got their name from the constellation of Perseus, where the meteors seem to originate. Max Gilbraith, the planetarium coordinator at the University of Wyoming, noted, "All the meteors seem to radiate from and streak out from the constellation of Perseus," pointing out the intricacies of celestial navigation.
