At 18:16 on March 19, 2025, a report came in to the Pattaya City Disaster Prevention Center regarding a troubling incident involving three construction workers trapped in an elevator. The unsettling event took place in Soi Arunothai in Pattaya City, positioned within the Bang Lamung District of Chonburi Province.
The individuals stuck in the elevator were identified as Mr. Thanayaporn, aged 49 years, Mr. Samruay, 54, and Mr. Bunyasri, 55. The three men were part of a painting contractor team and were trying to access the 11th floor to collect tools and equipment when the elevator malfunction occurred.
Unfortunately, the elevator stopped unexpectedly, leaving them trapped between the 2nd and 3rd floors for more than an hour. As they found themselves stuck, they started to feel the weight of their situation becoming more grave. Sweaty and anxious, they attempted to signal for assistance. Mr. Bunyasri explained, "We were going up from the 11th floor when the elevator stalled between the two floors." He recounted their effort to call for help, pushing the emergency button and knocking on the elevator doors in hopes someone outside would hear them. Sadly, no one could hear their calls for help.
Realizing they were in dire straits, Mr. Bunyasri made a call to his son, asking him to contact authorities for assistance. This crucial call triggered an emergency response from the local rescue agency. Upon receiving the report, the Pattaya City Disaster Prevention Center quickly mobilized a team of volunteer rescue workers, equipped with special tools to deal with elevator emergencies.
Minutes later, the rescue team arrived at the scene and promptly assessed the situation. Using hydraulic pry tools, they worked diligently to pry open the elevator doors while ensuring that the three trapped workers remained safe. The tension of the moment eased as the rescue team skillfully managed to open the doors.
Finally, after more than an hour of entrapment, the relief was palpable. The rescue team successfully extracted Mr. Thanayaporn, Mr. Samruay, and Mr. Bunyasri from their cramped confines. Although they were obviously shaken and fatigued from the lengthy ordeal, fortunately, none of them sustained any injuries during their time inside the elevator.
This episode serves as a reminder of the importance of safety aboard elevators and the quick response needed when emergencies arise. Thankfully, the quick thinking of Mr. Bunyasri in contacting his son for help ensured that they weren’t left trapped for a longer period. The successful rescue reaffirms the dedication of the local disaster response teams who stand ready to assist in emergencies, providing the assurance that help is always on the way in times of need.
