Patriots Boost Offensive Line With Signing Of Garrett Bradbury

Following a tough 4-13 season, New England reshapes roster with key additions in free agency.

The New England Patriots are gearing up for a transformative phase as they rebuild after a disappointing 4-13 season. Entering his first year as head coach, Mike Vrabel, known for building effective offensive lines during his tenure with the Tennessee Titans, is guiding the team's current roster reshuffle, focusing primarily on enhancing both their offensive and defensive lines.

As the free-agency frenzy that kicked off on March 10th subsides, the Patriots have made some strategic signings. They welcomed new defensive players including Milton Williams, Harold Landry, K'Lavon Chaisson, and Khyiris Tonga, which adds depth and talent to their defense. Additionally, the Patriots have secured offensive linemen Morgan Moses and Wes Schweitzer to bolster their protection for rookie quarterback Drake Maye.

On March 18, 2025, the team made a significant move by agreeing to terms with center Garrett Bradbury on a two-year deal worth $12 million, with $3.8 million guaranteed. Bradbury, a former first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, brings considerable experience and skill to the center position, having started all 88 games for the Minnesota Vikings over the past six years.

The release of longtime center David Andrews marked a turning point for the organization. Andrews, the heart and soul of the offensive line, departed due to age and injury concerns after a celebrated career with the two-time Super Bowl champions. His absence leaves a leadership void in the locker room, making Bradbury's arrival timely and crucial.

Bradbury, 29, was released by the Vikings with a post-June 1 designation after Minnesota attempted to trade him. His impressive stats include a 70.7 overall grade from Pro Football Focus (PFF), which placed him 14th out of 66 eligible centers last season. This skill set aligns well with Vrabel's plans for a more run-heavy offensive approach, reminiscent of his time in Tennessee where he utilized strong run blockers effectively.

Bradbury's performance has previously contributed to establishing a powerful rushing attack; last year, he was part of the offensive line that facilitated notable performances from running back Aaron Jones, allowing him 1,138 rushing yards at an average of 4.5 yards per carry.

Following Andrews' departure, the Patriots now look to solidify their offensive line, which recorded a 67% run block win rate last season, ranking them last in the NFL. Brimming with approximately $89 million in cap space, the Patriots are in a prime position to continue building their roster and make necessary upgrades.

The addition of Bradbury is an immediate step toward improving an offensive line that struggled last season. Additionally, there’s a possibility that making this move could remedy some of the inconsistencies caused by former first-round pick Cole Strange, who was slated as the starting center but only participated in three games last year.

As the offseason progresses and the Patriots continue to make crucial decisions, Bradbury’s presence and experience atop the offensive line will be pivotal as they attempt to reshape their image and return to competitive form in the upcoming season.
