Patrick De Paula Works Hard To Reclaim Spot At Botafogo

Midfielder sacrifices vacation to prepare for the Carioca Championship 2025.

Patrick de Paula, the Brazilian midfielder, is making headlines as he prepares for his return to Botafogo after enduring challenging times on and off the field. Known for his potential, he faces the task of reclaiming his position within the squad, particularly as the 2025 Campeonato Carioca approaches.

The 25-year-old player began his career with Palmeiras, earning recognition as one of the top prospects before his significant move to Botafogo—marked as the club's most expensive acquisition at the time. After showcasing his talent during pivotal moments, including being part of the team during the Copa Libertadores victory, Patrick’s career took unexpected turns due to injuries.

Through the past season, Patrick struggled with serious injuries, including a debilitating knee injury he suffered earlier this year, which prevented him from making significant contributions on the pitch. His loan to Criciúma last season resulted in just five appearances, accentuating the urgency and pressure surrounding his return to Botafogo.

Determined to make up for lost time and prove his worth, Patrick has opted for rigorous preparation. Forgoing his vacation, he has committed himself to intensive training so he can be fully fit for the upcoming season. "Abri mão das minhas férias para poder voltar bem fisicamente e de cabeça. A lesão que eu tive me atrapalhou bastante, mas graças a Deus isso já é passado. Sempre me dedico ao máximo nas férias," he stated to GE.

The decision to sacrifice personal time has not come easy, as Patrick expressed, "Deixei de viajar com minha filha, esposa e meus amigos para aproveitar ao máximo. Nós temos pouco tempo dentro de casa, mas foi isso que sonhei. É me dedicar ao máximo para poder voltar bem ano que vem.” It’s evident he holds high aspirations for his time with Botafogo.

To aid his recovery process, he has engaged Matheus Mendes, a physical trainer noted for his work with other Botafogo players, emphasizing the comprehensive approach he’s taking to regain not just physical fitness but also mental fortitude. Alongside exercises focused on strength, injury prevention, and pilates for flexibility, his latest program is significantly personalized.

Patrick is aware of the importance of the early matches in the Carioca Championship, emphasizing, internally at Botafogo, the first five games of the tournament will critically determine his future with the team. His focus on enhancing his performance aligns with the club's expectations as they prepare for the competitive season.

While Botafogo gears up to utilize younger talents for the initial matches before the main squad returns, Patrick's return at this pivotal moment could offer him the chance to reintegrate himself and shine. He is among the group of players who will participate right from the beginning, setting the stage for his potential resurgence.

Given the stakes, Patrick’s preparations could mark not just the return of the player but also highlight his character and commitment to overcoming adversity. His determination resonates across the Botafogo community, who are hopeful to witness Patrick at his peak form once again.

Reflecting on the last calendar year, Patrick expressed gratitude for the support he has received from previous clubs and the friendship developed through adversity. Having enjoyed team successes with Botafogo, he shared his dismay at Criciúma's relegation, appreciating their structure and camaraderie.

His path forward, with his dedication now set on achieving his aspirations at Botafogo, showcases not just his resilience through setbacks but also the hope he inspires among both fans and teammates. With the Campeonato Carioca set to begin, all eyes will be on Patrick de Paula as he steps back onto the field, eager to reclaim his place and contribute to Botafogo's ambitions for the season.
