Patrice Aminati, the 30-year-old wife of television host Daniel Aminati, has been battling stage four black skin cancer since her diagnosis in spring 2023. As her health continues to decline, she has opened up about her struggles and hopes in a recent interview, highlighting the importance of transparency in her fight against this devastating illness.
Since her diagnosis, Patrice and Daniel have chosen to share their journey publicly, defying the stigma often associated with cancer. Daniel Aminati explained their decision, stating, "For me, it will not work to hide my wife's illness. And I refused to pretend that I am the Li-La-Launebär," a German expression meaning to put on a facade of happiness.
Patrice's current condition is serious; she is receiving palliative treatment, which means her cancer is no longer curable. "I am in palliative treatment, cancer stage 4, not curable," she stated plainly, reflecting the harsh reality she faces. Despite this, she has found a way to cope with her circumstances, saying, "I have gotten used to a new way of life." However, she admits that the disease has robbed her of her "feeling of freedom and lightheartedness."
Each day, Patrice takes 21 tablets to manage her condition, and the side effects can be overwhelming. There have been moments when she has felt close to giving up, questioning whether she should continue fighting: "Lass ich jetzt los? Stehe ich nicht mehr auf? (...) Ergebe ich mich?" ("Should I let go now? Will I not get up anymore? (...) Should I give up?"). Yet, her love for her family—Daniel and their daughter, Charly Malika—has been a driving force behind her resilience. "In particularly painful moments, it has helped me to have responsibility for my family, especially for my husband and our child," she shared.
Despite the challenges, Patrice and Daniel harbor dreams of expanding their family. They hope to have a second child, but Patrice's current medical treatment makes this impossible. "At the moment, it is not possible to become pregnant because of the medication— I am in palliative treatment, cancer stage 4, not curable," she explained. Nevertheless, they remain hopeful for advancements in cancer research, with Patrice expressing optimism that a new medication could provide her with more time and potentially allow her to conceive again. "If I had no dreams: Why would I get up in the morning?" she mused.
Patrice's journey has not been without its ups and downs. In March 2025, a new metastasis was discovered, leading to further complications in her treatment. "Not that it should diminish it, but: that is a small metastasis that has been there for a few weeks but is not getting bigger. And that is, in quotation marks, a small ray of hope for us," Daniel noted in an interview. However, the couple does not harbor illusions about a complete recovery. Patrice candidly stated, "I hope that a drug will come on the market that replaces the many tablets and gives me more time."
Living with cancer has forced Patrice to reevaluate her life priorities. She admits that she no longer concerns herself with trivial matters, such as whether her jeans fit well, but instead focuses on fundamental questions about how she lives her life and the legacy she wishes to leave for her daughter. "I ask myself fundamental questions: how I live. Whether I am someone I would like to spend time with. How I can allocate my energies and which tasks I can delegate," she explained.
Patrice does not fear death itself but is deeply concerned about the impact her passing would have on her loved ones. "For me, the thought of leaving our daughter behind is terrible. How will Daniel cope with that? I have also told him that I hope he finds someone who can support him. And imagining my parents burying their daughter…" This thought serves as motivation for her to continue fighting for her life.
In recent public appearances, Patrice and Daniel have demonstrated remarkable courage, using their platform to inspire others facing similar battles. Their appearance on the "Beatrice Egli Show" was particularly poignant, showcasing their unwavering spirit despite the weight of their circumstances.
Looking ahead, the couple is also planning to renew their wedding vows on April 27, 2027, a date that holds special significance as it marks both their wedding anniversary and Patrice's birthday. Daniel expressed his desire for a grand celebration, stating, "It would be nice to get married again and renew our vows on our wedding day and Patrice's birthday." The couple initially married in 2022 in a small civil ceremony, as Patrice wanted to ensure they were married when their daughter was born.
Patrice Aminati's story is one of strength, hope, and love in the face of unimaginable adversity. As she continues to navigate her cancer journey, her determination to remain positive and her desire to dream for the future serve as a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit. Each day is a gift, and for Patrice, every pain-free moment is celebrated as a victory.
