On March 21, 2025, Dinas Tenaga Kerja dan Transmigrasi (Disnakertrans) Kabupaten Paser held a critical meeting with representatives from online transportation applications to discuss the upcoming Bonus Hari Raya (BHR) for drivers. The session illuminated a significant disparity in driver activity, revealing that while local officials reported over 1,000 registered online drivers, data from the applications themselves indicated only approximately 20 drivers were actively working.
Rizky Noviar, the head of Disnakertrans Paser, expressed concern regarding this finding, highlighting the challenges it presents in administering the bonus effectively. “Data from the aplikator shows only around 20 drivers who are active. This number is what we consider productive and performing well based on our records,” Rizky stated.
This situation raises questions about how meaningful the BHR initiative can be for drivers who might not meet the criteria set by the ukur, revealing a complex relationship between local government authority and corporate practices. Rizky made it clear that the local government's ability to enforce bonus distribution is limited. “We hope that the drivers who qualify and are entitled to bonuses can receive their rights as per applicable regulations,” he noted.
Despite these challenges, Disnakertrans Paser is committed to facilitating the disbursement of bonuses. They aim to have payments completed at least seven days before the significant holiday of Hari Raya Idul Fitri, which is essential for drivers who rely on this financial assistance during the festive period. However, Rizky underscored that the responsibility for funding these bonuses rests solely with the transportation companies.
In anticipation of potential grievances from drivers who may not receive the BHR, Disnakertrans Paser has established a complaint post as a channel to express their concerns. “We sincerely hope, like during the Lebaran festivities in 2024, that no complaints arise regarding the BHR. We are optimistic that this year's situation will remain conducive,” Rizky added, reflecting a desire for cooperation and understanding among drivers and authorities.
Amidst this backdrop, partners eligible for the bonus can look forward to funds being disbursed directly to their GoPay accounts from March 22 to March 24, 2025. The bonus amounts will vary between Rp 900,000 and Rp 1,600,000, providing vital support for those who have been diligently serving customers throughout the year, rain or shine.
“With this distribution structure, we aim to ensure that appreciation is given on target to active driver partners who continuously provide the best service,” said Ade, a representative of Gojek. The introduction of this bonus program comes as a welcome relief for many drivers who have shown resilience amidst challenges, promising a sweeter celebration this year.
This dual approach towards bonus distribution not only underscores the tension between governmental oversight and corporate policies but also highlights the complexities facing ordinary workers in the gig economy. As these online drivers work under fluctuating conditions, awaiting their bonuses can be fraught with uncertainty.
Both the government and private sector's cooperation will be critical in navigating these challenges effectively. The actions taken now could pave the way for a more organized and equitable system of employment in the local transportation industry.
