Parshuram Jayanti 2025: Market Open Despite Celebrations

As Parshuram Jayanti is celebrated, schools close in many states while the stock market remains active.

April 29, 2025, is set to be a significant day for many across India as it marks the birth anniversary of Maharishi Parshuram, an occasion popularly known as Parshuram Jayanti. This day is not only a time for celebration but also a public holiday in several states, leading to closures of schools and government offices. However, what does this mean for the Indian stock market?

Despite the festivities, the Indian stock market will remain open. According to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) holidays list, the stock market will not close for Parshuram Jayanti on April 29. The last holiday observed in April was on April 18 due to Good Friday, and the market had also been closed for Shri Mahavir Jayanti on April 10 and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14. With no further trading holidays scheduled for the remainder of April, investors can expect a regular trading day.

In the previous market session, the Sensex recorded a notable performance, finishing at 80,218.37, up by 1,005.84 points or 1.27%. The Nifty 50 also saw a significant gain, climbing 289.15 points or 1.2% to close at 24,328.50. This surge in the markets led to a remarkable increase in the market capitalization of BSE-listed companies, which ended at Rs 42,610,761.10 crore, reflecting an increase of Rs 451,860.19 crore from the previous m-cap of Rs 42,158,900.91 crore.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were particularly active, investing Rs 2,474.10 crore in equities on April 28, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) contributed Rs 2,817.64 crore. This influx of investment has contributed to the positive sentiment in the market.

As Parshuram Jayanti approaches, many parents and students are eager to know about school holidays in their respective regions. The day is celebrated with great reverence, particularly in states such as Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, where it holds significant cultural importance.

In Punjab, the government has declared a gazetted holiday for Parshuram Jayanti, ensuring that all educational institutions will remain closed. Similarly, Haryana has officially announced a public holiday for the occasion, leading to school closures across the state.

Rajasthan has also declared April 29 as a public holiday, with all government offices, banks, and schools shutting down for the day. In Uttar Pradesh, Parshuram Jayanti is recognized as a significant cultural event, marked as a restricted holiday in many areas. Consequently, some schools may close based on individual holiday schedules, while others may remain operational.

Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh have both declared April 29 as a public holiday for Parshuram Jayanti, with most schools and educational institutions expected to close. In Gujarat, the day is recognized as a public holiday as well, ensuring that schools observe a closure.

However, the situation in Bihar is slightly different. The Bihar Education Department's 2025 holiday calendar does not explicitly list Parshuram Jayanti as a holiday, so students and parents are advised to check directly with their local school authorities for confirmation.

Maharashtra observes Parshuram Jayanti as a public holiday, but school closures may vary by district. Regions with a higher population of devotees are likely to see schools closed, while other areas might continue normal operations.

As the day approaches, it is essential for students and parents to stay updated through official school notices or local authorities regarding holiday schedules. While many states have announced a school holiday, local variations may occur, and staying informed will ensure that everyone is prepared for the day.

In the stock market, analysts remain optimistic yet cautious. Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Investments, noted that the domestic market rebounded from losses incurred due to recent border tensions. He added that sustained buying from FIIs and positive results from Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) have bolstered investor sentiment. However, he cautioned investors to remain vigilant, as the market has yet to fully account for potential repercussions from geopolitical events.

Ajit Mishra, Senior Vice President of Research at Religare Broking, echoed this sentiment, stating that while the recent buoyancy is encouraging, participants should maintain a positive yet cautious bias due to ongoing geopolitical tensions. He mentioned that a decisive breakout above the 24,400 mark could trigger fresh momentum in the Nifty, potentially pushing it towards the 24,800 level.

Technical analysts are also keeping a close watch on the market. Satish Chandra Aluri from Lemonn Markets Desk indicated that the Nifty 50 closed above the 24,300 mark, with an immediate resistance zone expected at 24,500 and support at 24,200.

As Parshuram Jayanti is celebrated across various states in India, it serves as a reminder of the rich cultural traditions that continue to thrive alongside the modern financial landscape. Investors will be keen to see how the market performs on this auspicious day, while families celebrate the legacy of Lord Parshuram with devotion and reverence.
