Paramount+ Expands Subscription Options In German Markets

New premium and basic plans reflect growing demand for streaming flexibility and quality content.

On March 26, 2025, Paramount+, a streaming service owned by Paramount Global, will introduce two new subscription tiers in key German-speaking markets: Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. This rollout includes a premium plan designed to give customers more flexibility and access to high-quality content, reflecting the growing demand for diverse streaming options.

The new premium plan will be priced at 12.99 euro ($14.08) per month in Germany and Austria, while subscribers in Switzerland will pay 17.90 Swiss francs ($20.31) monthly. Those wishing to commit for the long haul can opt for annual subscriptions costing 115.99 euro ($125.73) in Germany and Austria, or 161 Swiss francs ($182.73) in Switzerland. This premium offering will feature impressive video qualities such as 4K UHD, HDR10, and support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos on selected titles. Additionally, users will benefit from concurrent streaming across up to four devices, enhancing family viewing experiences.

Following this premium offering, a basic plan that includes ads is set to debut later in the summer of 2025. This lower-priced tier will come at a cost of 5.99 euro ($6.49) monthly in Germany and Austria, and 7.90 Swiss francs ($8.97) in Switzerland. Annual subscriptions for the ad-supported option will be 52.99 euro ($57.45) and 71 Swiss francs ($80.58), catering to budget-conscious consumers who still want quality entertainment.

According to Marco Nobili, executive vice president and international general manager for Paramount+, this step represents a significant evolution in the streaming landscape as more consumers are opting for varied subscription models. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Nobili stated, “Paramount+ is seeing strong international subscriber growth as fans in markets around the world come to our service for hit series from Landman and Happy Face to SpongeBob and Star Trek.” He emphasized that new subscription models are reshaping the streaming industry, providing additional choices that enhance user experience at various price points.

Nobili highlighted the success of such tier-based launches in different regions, noting that “we are already seeing strong adoption, with non-standard plans accounting for nearly half of direct-to-consumer sign-ups in Australia, Canada, U.K., Brazil, and Mexico.” With this new rollout in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, there is great optimism that similar momentum will continue, bolstered by the service's strong content offerings.

Lee Sears, president of international markets advertising sales at Paramount, also weighed in on the company’s expansion efforts. He pointed out that “expanding our Paramount+ ad-tier plan to new markets will unlock a tremendous opportunity for advertisers.” This expansion will allow advertisers to connect with fans of Paramount’s popular global franchises, films, and series in these key German-speaking locations.

The recent record-breaking consumption in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria at the close of 2024 laid the groundwork for this new launch. This surge was driven by the popularity of programs like Tulsa King Season 2, Star Trek: Discovery, Germany Shore Season 4, and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. These successes confirm GSA as a vital market for continued growth.

In terms of content, Paramount+ is promising exciting additions for subscribers in the GSA region, including MobLand, a new series directed by Guy Ritchie and featuring stars like Tom Hardy and Pierce Brosnan. Additionally, new European original series such as Parallel Me, which follows a young woman exploring alternate versions of her life, will be available. Furthermore, major films like Gladiator II, which will premiere on May 28, 2025, along with Transformers One and Smile 2, are among the attractions that subscribers can look forward to.

As the streaming market continues to evolve rapidly, Paramount+ appears to be strategically positioned to engage its audience with competitive pricing and an extensive catalog of high-quality content. By diversifying its subscription models, Paramount+ is not only adapting to consumer preferences but also enhancing its standing in the increasingly competitive streaming landscape.
