Palmeiras Eyes Villasanti And Bitello For 2025 Squad Reinforcements

After a title-less season, Palmeiras shifts focus to bolster its midfield with promising transfers amid competitive negotiations.

Palmeiras is actively evaluating options as it aims to bolster its squad for the upcoming 2025 season, with specific attention turning toward Mathías Villasanti, the midfielder currently with Grêmio. Notably, Villasanti has emerged as a valuable target for the club, which is seeking reinforcements following a challenging year devoid of major titles.

The club's pursuit is fueled by plans to solidify its midfield dynamics and maintain competitiveness. According to multiple sources, Palmeiras views Villasanti as part of its strategy, particularly if negotiations for Andreas Pereira, presently at Fulham, falter due to high transfer costs.

The interest is not one-sided; Grêmio, on its part, is reluctant to part ways with Villasanti, deeming him one of the team's cornerstones for 2025. Grêmio's management is awaiting the confirmation of new head coach Pedro Caixinha, who reportedly has expressed the desire to work with Villasanti going forward.

“We recognize how pivotal Villasanti is to our team's structure, and we’re committed to keeping him under our wings,” said Fabíola Thiele, a reporter from Portal do Gremista. Her insight points to the fact Grêmio is currently not considering any sale of their star midfielder.

Mathías Villasanti has solidified his status at Grêmio, showcasing impressive statistics, including being among the top players for tackles and contributing to the offensive front with notable goals and assists. Since joining Grêmio from Cerro Porteño, he has notched 159 appearances, scoring 14 goals and assisting 12 times, establishing himself as both a defensive stalwart and offensive option.

What's more, Villasanti's solid year also saw him captain the team during absences of other key players, exemplifying his importance within the squad. These contributions are likely why the Palmeiras management believes he could significantly benefit their setup.

Palmeiras has set its eyes not only on Villasanti but also on Bitello, another midfielder previously associated with Grêmio, currently at Dinamo Moscow. Both players have been marked as pivotal parts of Palmeiras' mission for a promising season. Bitello, known for his versatility, mirrors the qualities the club seeks to integrate effectively within Abel Ferreira's tactics.

The financial parameters for Villasanti's potential transfer reflect the stakes involved; he is valued around €15 million, approximately R$100 million. This premium price highlights the difficulty of negotiation facing Palmeiras. If they are to secure Villasanti, they must navigate the expectations set by Grêmio carefully.

Palmeiras’ proactive search reflects its ambition to rebuild and reinforce its ranks after struggling last season. The reported eagerness of their management team indicates they are very much open to enacting these changes swiftly. This sentiment is echoed with the announcement of other incoming players such as Facundo Torres from Orlando City, which signals the club's readiness to revamp its roster.

Nonetheless, the club's diligence should not be underestimated as they weigh their options. Should the move for Andreas Pereira hit deadlocks, Villasanti serves as their alternative plan. “We’ve laid out paths for multiple successful outcomes,” noted a source linked to the Palmeiras management.

Concerns remain though as the Grêmio hierarchy considers future strategies under the new coaching staff. According to reports, Pedro Caixinha's recommendations will carry considerable weight, especially concerning maintaining team's core strengths, which Villasanti exemplifies.

With negotiations underway, time remains of the essence, as the club aims to finalize its lineup choices sooner rather than later. Both players, Villasanti and Bitello, hold substantial appeal, yet Palmeiras finds itself threading the needle of balancing aggressiveness with the permanence of contractual agreements held with both Grêmio and Dinamo Moscow.

“Planning for 2025 means identifying the right players who align with our philosophy, and Villasanti captures all the right characteristics,” explained another club insider. The clock is ticking as Palmeiras’ front office attempts to secure these potential transfers, which hold the promise of rejuvenation for the passionate fan base.

The public dialogue surrounding these transfer talks has naturally piqued the interest of fans and analysts alike. Palmeiras’ readiness to pursue top talent symbolizes both optimism and determination to rise once more to the top of Brazil's football hierarchy.
