Pakistan Faces Rain And Cold Weather Ahead

Weather forecasts predict continued rain and colder temperatures across multiple regions until early March.

Pakistan is experiencing significant weather changes as light rain swept through Lahore and other cities early Tuesday, resulting in nippy temperatures across the region. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) announced forecasts predicting continued rainfall from February 25 to March 2, marking the onset of another winter weather spell.

Rain occurred across various locations within Lahore, including Mall Road, Lakshmi Chowk, Gulshan-e-Ravi, and Gulberg, with citizens waking to chilly winds and overcast skies. According to the PMD, the arrival of a strong westerly weather system is anticipated to impact the country, particularly northern and western areas, where snowfall and hailstorms are expected.

"A strong westerly weather system is expected to enter the western parts of Pakistan on the evening or night of February 24 and will extend to the upper parts by February 25," noted PMD representatives. They also highlighted the likelihood of thunderstorms and rain-wind combinations affecting Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several districts of Punjab, including Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and more.

Additional rain and thunderstorms have been predicted for the Pothohar region, southern Punjab, and Balochistan as well, echoing warnings from the National Disaster Management Authority. Locals were reminded to stay cautious as the changing weather could lead to dangers such as landslides, particularly following heavy rainfall.

Expected precipitation includes snow forecasted for higher altitudes, with regions like Malakand, Hazara, and Gilgit-Baltistan facing rain combined with snowfall. Upper areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have reported rain since Monday night, with Kohat and surrounding areas enjoying cooler temperatures due to this recent weather shift.

Reports indicate concerns over potential landslides prompted by continued rain over the next 24 hours, particularly affecting areas like Karak, which is experiencing intermittent rainfall. "The rainfall has raised worries about potential landslides in the hilly areas," maintained PMD officials as they monitored the developing situation.

For residents of Pakistan, especially those living near hilly terrains, this weather update serves as both relief and caution; the cool, pleasant weather accompanying the rain might bring temporary comfort, yet underlying risks remain as nature unleashes its winter forces.
