Oscar Nominees Gear Up For New Emmy Competition

Several Academy Award nominees are set to battle for Emmy recognition across different television projects this year.

The Oscars may be in the rearview mirror, but seven of this year's Academy Award acting nominees could find themselves competing once again at the 2025 Emmys. Mikey Madison and Zoe Saldaña, the respective Oscar winners for Anora (Best Actress) and Emilia Pérez (Best Supporting Actress), will be seeking Emmy nominations this year for vastly different TV projects. Madison will submit for the 50-year-old sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live and the limited series Lady in the Lake, while Saldaña will be eligible for Season 2 of the spy thriller Lioness.

Speaking of SNL, Timothée Chalamet and Ariana Grande are two other recent Oscar nominees who also hosted the program this season. Chalamet earned an Oscar nod for his portrayal of music superstar Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, and Grande made magic happen in Wicked as Glinda the Good Witch. Here's a closer look at all seven of this year's Oscar acting nominees who could face off at the Emmys.

Timothée Chalamet - 2025 Oscar nomination for Best Actor, A Complete Unknown - 2025 Emmy nomination ballot for Best Comedy Guest Actor, Saturday Night Live. In January, Chalamet became the latest person to join the list of SNL's host and musical guest double-duty performers. He took a big risk by singing some of Dylan's little-known songs — "Outlaw Blues," "Three Angels," and "Tomorrow Is a Long Time" — and joked during his monologue that he always loses at awards shows. (Maybe he'll win the Emmy to along with his shiny new Screen Actors Guild Award?) In the show's sketches, Chalamet played a bungee instructor, a new barista in training, an artificial intelligence robot, and a hyper dog named Biscuit.

Colman Domingo - 2025 Oscar nomination for Best Actor, Sing Sing - 2025 Emmy nomination ballot for Best Comedy Supporting Actor, The Four Seasons. Domingo earned back-to-back Best Actor Oscar bids for portraying civil rights leader Bayard Rustin in Rustin and prison inmate John "Divine G" Whitfield in Sing Sing. He's already an Emmy winner for guest-starring on Euphoria (2022), and he's now looking for a bookend trophy for his supporting role in The Four Seasons, in which he plays opposite Marco Calvani. Due out May 1, the Netflix comedy is co-created by Tina Fey and is based on the 1981 film of the same name.

Ariana Grande - 2025 Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress, Wicked - 2025 Emmy nomination ballot for Best Comedy Guest Actress, Saturday Night Live. Buoyed by Wicked-mania, Grande returned to host SNL for the first time since 2016, and both times the nation was "right on the verge of electing our first female president." The starlet made sure to emphasize in her monologue that she was "just" there to host and even sang about how she was "not gonna sing." Some of Grande's viral sketches included "Charades With Mom" (where she kissed Bowen Yang), "Bridesmaid Speech" (which welcomed Marcello Hernandez's Diego), and "Maybelline" (where she showed off her Jennifer Coolidge impression).

Mikey Madison - 2025 Oscar winner for Best Actress, Anora - 2025 Emmy nomination ballot for Best Comedy Guest Actress, Saturday Night Live, and Best Movie/Limited Supporting Actress, Lady in the Lake. Madison will host NBC's late-night staple Saturday Night Live for the first time on March 29, making her eligible for the guest star Emmy. The reigning Best Actress champion also plays Judith on Lady in the Lake, opposite the 2010 Best Actress winner Natalie Portman (Black Swan). They play friends in the Apple TV+ limited series, with Madison's free spirit character helping Portman's investigative journalist on an unsolved murder case in 1960s Baltimore.

Demi Moore - 2025 Oscar nomination for Best Actress, The Substance - 2025 Emmy nomination ballot for Best Drama Supporting Actress, Landman. Season 1 of Landman, which comes from Taylor Sheridan, the mastermind producer behind the Yellowstone franchise, was airing at the same time as movie-goers were experiencing The Substance. In Landman, Moore plays Cami, the friend of Billy Bob Thornton's Tommy and the wife of Jon Hamm's Monty. For The Substance, she won the Golden Globe, Critics Choice, and SAG Awards for her role of an aging movie star who goes to extreme lengths to stay young again.

Zoe Saldaña - 2025 Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actress, Emilia Pérez - 2025 Emmy nomination ballot for Best Drama Actress, Lioness. The action series Lioness, which also happens to be a Sheridan project, stars Saldaña as Joe McNamara, a CIA senior case officer in the field. Saldaña won her Oscar for the musical film Emilia Pérez for playing a down-on-her-luck lawyer who helps a drug cartel leader undergo a gender transition, and even though she had the most screen time in the film, she opted to campaign in the supporting category — a strategy that proved successful. For Lioness, she's going lead.

Sebastian Stan - 2025 Oscar nomination for Best Actor, The Apprentice - 2025 Emmy nomination ballot for Best Character Voice-Over Performance, What If ...?. Stan lent his voice as the iconic Marvel character Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier in the Disney+ episodes "What If... the Hulk Fought the Mech Avengers?" and "What If... the Red Guardian Stopped the Winter Soldier?" which both dropped in December. Chadwick Boseman and Jeffrey Wright previously contended in this Emmy category for their respective roles as Star Lord T’Challa and The Watcher; Boseman won posthumously. At the Oscars, Stan was recognized for playing a young Donald Trump in The Apprentice.

To sum it up, seven of this year's Academy Award nominees are primed to make an impact once again, this time in the realm of television. With a blend of comedy and drama, the upcoming Emmy nominations promise to pit some of the year's brightest stars against each other as they vie for recognition in their respective fields.
