Oregon Wins Women’s Title At 2025 NCAA Indoor Track And Field Championships

The Oregon Ducks triumphed at the 2025 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships, securing the women’s team title for the eighth time overall, their first crown since 2017. The championship took place on March 14-15, 2025, at the Virginia Beach Sports Center, where the Ducks showcased their depth and talent against strong competitors.

Oregon finished with 55 points, outpacing Georgia, who scored 39, and USC with 35. With just two events left on the final day, the Ducks had already sealed their victory with consistency across the board. This achievement marks the Ducks' resurgence, especially after having dominated the championships from 2010 to 2017, where they won seven titles within eight years.

Despite only winning one individual event—the mile run—Oregon's depth on the field made all the difference. The junior Wilma Nielsen claimed the mile title with her finish, supported by teammate Silan Ayyildiz, who finished fourth and collectively earned 15 points for the team. Beyond the mile, runner-up finishes by Jadyn Mays also brought significant points, as she took second place both in the 60-meter dash and the 200 meters.

Additional points came through Aaliyah McCormick, who was the runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles, Jaida Ross who placed second in the shot put, and contributions from the distance medley relay team—Nielsen, Ella Clayton, Ella Nelson, and Ayyildiz—that finished second.

Here are the top performing teams from the championships:

  • Oregon – 55

  • Georgia – 39

  • USC – 35

  • Oklahoma – 31

  • Washington – 31

  • Arkansas – 31

  • Texas A&M – 27

  • Illinois – 25.5

  • BYU – 24

  • Texas Tech – 21.5

Conversely, USC celebrated its own success by winning the men’s team championship, marking their return to the top for the first time since 1972. With performances like Daniel Reynolds winning the men’s weight throw with a notable distance, USC’s victory highlighted the competitiveness of the championships.

Oregon's performance echoed throughout the weekend as track and field enthusiasts tuned to the championships either live or through replays. ?The Ducks are back on top after some time and have shown their depth and talent throughout the competition,? noted FloTrack reporting team. The excitement of the event not only showcased individual athletes' strengths but also emphasized the team dynamics prevalent within this sport.

The championships not only established champions but also broke multiple records, such as Taylor Kesner's record-setting distance throw.

The Virginia Beach Sports Center, which opened its doors to athletes and fans alike only recently, was the ideal backdrop for such high-stakes competition, complete with state-of-the-art facilities. Hosting this event marked a significant milestone for the venue as it continues to establish itself as premier competition site for future athletics events.
