The 21st Okinawa City Mayor's Cup Basketball Okinawa Cup kicked off on March 22, 2025, drawing high school basketball teams from across Japan. Fukuoka Daichi High School claimed the spotlight on the tournament's first day after securing a decisive victory against Toin Gakuen, finishing with a score of 73-64. This event, which also includes the 3rd Ryukyu Daihatsu Cup, is being held at the Okinawa City Gymnasium, providing a stage for both local teams and national powerhouses in the sport.

During a press conference held on March 17,桶谷大 stated, "Iteko told me that it was amazing to have the Emperor's Cup come to Kyushu.” His remarks underline the respect and camaraderie shared among basketball coaches, regardless of their teams’ categorization between high school and professional levels.

Fukuoka Daichi's achievements have been highlighted by their head coach, who reflected on the long-standing relationships within the basketball community. During a recent interview, Itekoguchi commented on the support he received from桶谷大, noting, "We had been in touch, and I encouraged him ahead of the Emperor’s Cup finale despite their earlier setbacks."
